Manchester United are set to bring in an interim manager until the end of the season following the sacking of Ruben Amorim
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in pole position to return to Manchester United as interim manager.
Ruud van Nistelrooy and Michael Carrick have also been in contention to replace the sacked Ruben Amorim on an interim basis. But Van Nistelrooy has been ruled out, while Carrick has fallen behind Solskjaer in the running to take charge, but could still be offered a role alongside Solskjaer. Solskjaer held talks with club bosses on Tuesday and is said to have impressed CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox.
Solskjaer will return to Norway tomorrow from his Cheshire home, to attend the funeral of a close friend. But it’s understood he could be appointed before the start of next week. Darren Fletcher is the current interim boss and took charge of United’s game at Burnley on Wednesday night.

But it’s believed United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe still wants to look elsewhere for a permanent replacement for Amorim and will wait until the summer.
Thomas Tuchel, who he tried to land before appointing Amorim in November 2024, remains high on his wish-list. Others under consideration include Carlo Ancelotti and Mauricio Pochettino.
Former United striker Solskjaer took temporary charge of the team in December 2018 when Jose Mourinho was sacked.
He landed the job on a permanent basis and went on to manage United for almost three years.
The 52-year-old, who lasted less than six months as manager of Besiktas, is desperate to make an emotional return to Old Trafford for a second spell in charge, deciding to cut short what he had been planning would be an extended break from the game.
But his potential return has sparked widespread criticism on social media, with supporters accusing the club of looking backwards and being too obsessed with the past.
