Man Utd 'Pushing' to Sign Antoine Semenyo After Direct Talks

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be open to returning to Old Trafford to replace Ruben Amorim, Fabrizio Romano has claimed.

Amorim was relieved from his duties at United on Monday morning, less than 24 hours after their 1-1 draw away at Leeds United in the Premier League. The Portuguese manager had United sitting in sixth before his sacking, but they are just four points above Crystal Palace in 14th.

Darren Fletcher is set to take interim charge of United following the exit of Amorim, but it’s unclear as to how long he’s going to be in the dugout. The Red Devils will be working on a permanent appointment, whether that’s in a few days, weeks, or months.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has confirmed that former United manager Solskjaer would be ‘more than open’ to rejoining the club to replace Amorim. Their former striker is willing to rejoin the club to try and help them once again, but it’s unclear whether he’s a genuine target for the club.

“What I can tell you on this story going around in England is that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be more than open about joining and returning to Man Utd as caretaker manager. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be happy to help Man Utd again if he can. But at the moment, nothing more than this to report on this story.”

The 52-year-old was most recently the manager of Turkish side Bestikas, before being sacked, perhaps unfairly, just a few weeks into the season. Solskjaer was also, of course, previously in the dugout at Old Trafford, achieving 2.32 points per game as caretaker manager, and 1.79 points per game when he was appointed permanently.

Solskjaer Would be Risky Appointment

Although United enjoyed some success under Solskjaer last time around, some supporters might be hoping for more of a higher-calibre manager to take over from Amorim. However, if Solskjaer were to only come in as an interim appointment, it could certainly get some fans onside in terms of bringing a club legend back to Old Trafford.

Either way, United have an incredibly important decision to make in the coming days or weeks. The Red Devils can’t get another appointment wrong, and they need to ensure the next man can steer them back in the right direction.
