Paris Saint-Germain drop points in Ligue 1 as champions fall to 10-man Monaco
Paris Saint-Germain suffered only their second Ligue 1 loss of the season as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Monaco on Saturday.
Former Liverpool striker Takumi Minamino scored his second goal in as many games for the hosts, who also saw Thilo Kehrer sent off with 10 minutes remaining after hauling down Ibrahim Mbaye.
Coming on 68-minutes, the goal proved to be the difference as Monaco held on to record a famous victory at Stade Louis II.
Luis Enrique’s side were unable to make their numerical advantage count as their run of three consecutive league victories came to an end.
Defeat for Enrique’s team, who overcame a spirited Tottenham Hotspur side in the Champions League in midweek, opens the door for second-placed Marseille to leapfrog last season’s domestic treble-winners if they beat Toulouse later this evening.
PSG’s only other defeat in the league this term came against Marseille back in September when a Marquinhos own-goal after just five minutes was the difference in a 1-0 win for Roberto De Zerbi’s men.
Meanwhile, the result lifts Monaco up to sixth in the French top flight, and is a positive response following their 2-2 draw with Pafos in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
