Pep Guardiola has revealed he’s been suffering with a ‘skin problem’ over the past two or three years ahead of Manchester City’s blockbuster clash with fierce rivals Manchester United on Sunday.

The reigning Premier League champions have dominated the top flight in recent years, winning the title for the past four seasons on the trot.

But City will go into their clash against United on a torrid run of seven defeats from their last 10 matches across all competitions.

Recently, after City drew 3-3 with Feyenoord, Guardiola was seen with scratches on his head.

He joked that they were down to a desire to ‘hurt myself’ before then apologising for any offence caused by his comments.

But Guardiola, speaking ahead of the match against Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils, has now revealed he suffers from a ‘skin problem’ – and has been taking medicine to help him cope.

“I have a skin problem. I have to take antihistamine for the last two or three years,” said the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss.

“The nails, yes, I did them on my nose. But the rest was that.”

Guardiola has never really suffered like this during his managerial career.

It is a unique situation, one that very few saw coming given the way his side have conquered English football like no other side before.

Guardiola says he’s been struggling to eat or sleep as a result of City’s crisis – and defeat to United on Sunday, especially given their own poor form, would represent a disaster.

Speaking to Prime Video, he said: “Sometimes you don’t need to have a great team to be happy.

“There are no players or coaches who don’t play for months because the results aren’t good. All that is normal and can happen.

“I am a person who sometimes gets nervous, I have bad days, I make a lot of mistakes and rudeness makes me nervous.

“Do I sometimes lose my head? Yes. I sleep worse and I don’t digest food properly now. I always have to eat light. Only soup at night.

“But I am the same coach as five months ago, the one who won the Premier League title.

“If I’m in a bad mood, it’s bad. But I know it will pass. The same when I’m very happy. I know it will pass.

“I sincerely believe that it will be a year of great difficulties. We have to find continuity.

“But if we manage to get through to the Champions League, it will not be easy for anyone to face us.”

City and United have already met once this season.

That was back in August, with the two teams doing battle in the Community Shield.

After a 1-1 draw, following goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Bernardo Silva, City won the trophy on penalties – with Jonny Evans and Jadon Sancho missing their spot-kicks for United.
