Tottenham v Liverpool preview

Liverpool are aiming to extend their unbeaten run to six matches in all competitions and earn a third straight win when the reigning Premier League champions visit Tottenham on Saturday.

The Reds beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 last Saturday in what may have been iconic forward Mohamed Salah’s final appearance for the club, with the Egypt captain subsequently joining his country at the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 and being heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in January.

Defeat could leave Tottenham as low as 15th at Christmas, having lost 3-0 at Nottingham Forest last Sunday as part of a run of one win in eight domestic matches.

Little more than six months after being appointed, manager Thomas Frank was the bookmakers’ favourite at the start of the weekend to become the next top-flight boss to leave their role.

Defenders Destiny Udogie and Kota Takai (both hamstring) and centre-back Radu Dragusin (knee) remain out for Tottenham, as do midfielders James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski (both knee) and forward Dominic Solanke (ankle).

Pape Matar Sarr has joined Senegal on AFCON duty, while Yves Bissouma is part of Mali’s squad.

Dominik Szoboszlai is a doubt with an ankle injury for Liverpool, while fellow midfielder Wataru Endo is out with the same issue on what is expected to be a short-term basis.

Forward Cody Gakpo could return this month from a muscular injury, but defender Joe Gomez and forward Jayden Danns will be out until January with hamstring problems. Centre-back Giovanni Leoni has a long-term knee injury.
