Ernesto Valverde’s side matched PSG’s periods of possession and, in the visitors’ defence, relied on key interventions from Unai Simon, who delivered several stops to protect the result in the Champions League.
PSG controlled much of the ball and generated the stronger chances, including Mayulu’s close-range effort late in the first half that Simon blocked with a sharp reaction save.
The visitors went close again after the interval when Barcola struck the crossbar and Simon denied both Zaire-Emery and Ruiz during a sustained spell of pressure.
Athletic threatened intermittently, with Berenguer and Williams leading occasional transitions, but they struggled to convert promising positions.
Their best moments came through half-chances from Sancet and Berenguer, though neither significantly troubled Safonov.
The atmosphere remained intense throughout, with the hosts committing numerous fouls to disrupt PSG’s rhythm and the crowd urging their side forward in the closing stages.
Despite this, neither team found the breakthrough, leaving Athletic in a competitive position ahead of crucial fixtures against Atalanta and Sporting, while PSG continue their campaign from the upper half of the standings.
