Rhys McCabe stays calm as troubled Airdrieonians host leaders Falkirk

It is all a far cry from the Airdrieonians that stormed the play-off party last season before losing to Partick Thistle in the quarter-final.

But, while second-bottom Dunfermline jettisoned James McPake two days before Christmas, there seems to be a different atmosphere at what is currently called the Albert Bartlett Stadium – and a sense that perhaps all is not lost this season.

“It is tough, but everyone is on board,” McCabe said. “I think you see that in the performances, certainly in the last couple of weeks.

“It is not a million miles away, although it seems it just now. They have got to keep working hard.”

They will certainly be made to work hard by Falkirk.

There is no doubt manager John McGlynn was smarting with the way his side squandered the lead three times against Dunfermline a week ago in what was the best televised game of the Championship season so far.

The silver-lining for the Bairns was that second-top Livingston slipped up against Rovers, which means Falkirk have a six-point lead at the top as we kick-off 2025.

However, there can be no resting on laurels in this division.

Top versus bottom on Friday night. The significance of three points for either Airdrieonians or Falkirk is huge.
