Richard Keys Reveals ‘Senior’ Player Has No Relationship with Arne Slot

Mohamed Salah isn’t the only one who no longer feels they have a relationship with Arne Slot, according to Richard Keys, who suggests another high-profile Liverpool star is disillusioned with life under the Dutch manager.

Salah spoke about his “disappointment” after being dropped by Slot and said he feels he’s been “thrown under the bus” by the club. His comments came after the Reds were held to a 3-3 draw by Leeds United on Saturday evening, and the Egyptian forward remained on the bench throughout.

Slot admitted before the game that he found it difficult not to start Salah, who has now only been handed 45 minutes in one of his side’s last three games. The 33-year-old appeared to suggest his time at the club could soon be coming to an end.

Keys has revealed that Salah isn’t the only one of the Merseyside giants’ “very senior” players who have grown frustrated with Slot. The beIN Sports presenter wrote on his X account:

“It was only a matter of time before Salah opened up. He has no relationship with Slot. And there’s another very senior member of the squad feels the same way. Very senior. I told you a week or so back — come in Stevie G.”

Salah’s future was the subject of speculation at the start of the year with his contract winding down, but he put pen to paper on a new two-year deal in April. He was Slot’s star man last season, firing the club to Premier League glory and winning the Golden Boot in the process.

He played every single league game in the 2024-25 campaign, but has already watched two of 13 games this term from the bench. His bit-part role came after a poor run of form and a difficult period for the team, who now sit eighth after 15 games.

Slot will be shaking his head at the drama that has ensued following Salah’s comments, and it may now be a case of ‘it’s me or the boss’ for the Egyptian. His new deal means he is tied to the club until June 2027, although recent reports suggest Saudi Pro League chiefs are prepared to fund a potential transfer next summer.

But if Liverpool continues to falter, there is only so much patience the hierarchy will have with Slot, who delivered the Premier League title just six months ago. The next few months will be important for the Dutchman, who will be without Salah come December 15 when he heads off to the African Cup of Nations with Egypt.

Keys suggested Steven Gerrard, currently out of a job, as an option on an interim basis, and that might be the route the Reds take in such a situation. The dressing room may need a lift, especially given the obvious fractious relationship between Salah and Slot, and bringing back a club legend in the form of the 2005 Champions League-winning captain could bring positivity back to Anfield.
