Roy Keane and Gary Neville Slam ‘Idiot’ Gabriel Martinelli

Gary Neville was left absolutely ‘fuming’ with Gabriel Martinelli after what he noticed the Arsenal star do in the 0-0 draw against Liverpool. The former Manchester United right-back laid into the Gunners’ left-winger and even claimed an apology was necessary.

The Premier League leaders were frustrated by Arne Slot’s men at the Emirates Stadium as neither team looked like scoring a goal. Mikel Arteta had hoped the north Londoners would extend their lead at the top after Manchester City’s draw the night before.

However, it was a deflated atmosphere at the full-time whistle as they failed to get the better of last season’s champions, who went into the game with many injury woes. Conor Bradley looked devastated as he was added to that list of casualties in the dying moments.

The Northern Irish international went down unchallenged and looked to be in extreme pain. However, Martinelli showed little sympathy for his opponent and attempted to push him off the pitch so that play could restart.

That’s exactly what angered Neville, who was on commentary for Sky Sports. Immediately, the Englishman launched into a tirade against the Brazilian, saying:

“You can’t push him off the pitch. You cannot do that. You idiot.”

“That’s so poor. I’m surprised none of the Liverpool players have gone over and had a right pop at him. I think an apology is needed.”

“Oh he’s thrown the ball at him as well. It’s no good,” a livid Neville continued. After demanding an apology from Martinelli, he went even further and claimed a Liverpool player should’ve taken physical action in the moment: “I’m actually fuming with Martinelli. I’m surprised one of the Liverpool players hasn’t gone over and whacked him and taken a red card.”

Roy Keane was in the studio and he was in no mood to entertain Martinelli’s antics. Echoing Neville’s thoughts, the Irishman stated:

“I don’t like it at all. It happened to me once before when I was injured and a player stood over me. Listen we know football, we know players’ reactions, we know when someone is hurt. First of all, throwing the ball on him. Standing over him and he’s got a little knee into him, trying to force him off.

“I’m surprised the Liverpool players didn’t go after Martinelli a bit more. That behaviour is a disgrace. Not good scenes. Hopefully Martinelli will go over and apologise for it.”
