Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim would not clarify comments he made earlier this month on the club’s transfer plans and decision’s made from the Red Devils’ hierarchy
Ruben Amorim clammed up when asked about the transfer window and hinted at discontent behind the scenes with Manchester United’s hierarchy. The Red Devils are preparing to face Leeds United with the club in sixth position, three points from the top four and three points clear of Fulham in 12th. United have failed to be wholly convincing this term, despite having no European football.
The club were linked with a move for Bournemouth ace Antoine Semenyo, but the winger is set to join Manchester City instead. The prospect of another move in January looks unlikely for now.
Before his team’s Sunday fixture against Leeds, Amorim was asked for greater insight into the comments he made ahead of the win over Newcastle. However, the 40-year-old did not appear entirely happy with the situation and gave little away despite repeated questioning.
“I have the feeling if we have to play a perfect 3-4-3, we need to spend a lot of money and we need time,” he said. “I’m starting to understand that is not going to happen. So, maybe I have to adapt.”

But the Portuguese coach offered little when quizzed on his transfer comments. “I don’t want to talk about that,” he said. “I just focus on the Leeds game.”
Amorim said he did not regret his comments and was then asked if anything had changed regarding the transfer budget he’d expected. “I don’t want to talk about that,” came the reply. After a short pause, Amorim added: “But you are very smart, so…”
Amorim said in December that he sometimes has ‘another idea’ than director of football Jason Wilcox when it comes to recruitment. he added that ‘common ground’ must be found before any incoming arrivals.
But earlier in his press conference before Leeds, the Portuguese conceded it would be a quiet month ahead. “The transfer window is not going to change,” said Amorim
“We have no conversations at this moment to have any change in the squad. There’s a process, there’s an idea that is going to continue.”
United spent big in the summer to replenish Amorim’s frontline. Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko arrived in deals worth more than £200million.
But the club are now prioritising a central midfielder and could be required to spend heavily again. Targets Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson will not be cheap.
