Ruben Amorim Blames Man Utd Defeat to Aston Villa on Bad Luck
Ruben Amorim has been heavily criticised online for his comments following Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon. The result itself came as little surprise, with the Red Devils having won just twice in their previous eight Premier League matches, while Unai Emery’s side have now claimed 10 consecutive victories for the first time in 111 years.
Going into the game, expectations leaned towards a relatively straightforward home win. Aside from a Matheus Cunha goal late in the first half, Villa created the clearer chances and made them count through a Morgan Rogers double. In particular, United’s lack of control in midfield cost them any real opportunity to disrupt Villa’s rhythm.
That issue was compounded by Bruno Fernandes’ substitution after the captain appeared to suffer a hamstring injury and is now expected to “miss some games” as a result. There is no shame in a graceful defeat against one of the most in-form teams in world football at present, but Amorim was unwilling to accept that framing in his post-match interview.

Amorim Produces ‘Deluded’ Assessment Following Villa Defeat
Speaking to the club following defeat in the West Midlands, Amorim chose not to acknowledge another well-rounded performance from Villa, but rather blame his side’s defeat purely on bad luck. The 40-year-old said:
“I think we were the better team today. We were unlucky, even with the injury of Bruno [Fernandes], but, during the game, even without him, we were the better team. We blocked the transitions quite well, and they did really well. We did a very good job that no-one is going to remember tomorrow because what matters is the result.”
Lack of Objectivity Is Hurting Man United Boss
Reacting to his comments on social media, few could get their head around the United boss’ assessment, and were quick to jump on his back about the so-called “delusion.” But watch him take the opinion that almost nobody else shares with him is nothign new, and it could be his stubbornness that is costing him the most.
One X user commented: “You will blame everything but not yourself,” while a second added: “Always the same excuses and yet we collected 7 out of 24 available points recently. Embarrassing.” Elsewhere, another remarked: “We weren’t better. That was Villa’s tactics. They let us have the ball, and they got the goals,” as a fourth said:
“Get rid of this clown, he has lowered the standard of this club with the owners as well. We are in the gutter, and we play one game a week.”
The former Sporting head coach was also labelled a “fraud” by bemused online users after his win percentage at Old Trafford dropped below 40 per cent, which has coincided with the fact he has only just opted to change his formation in an attempt to reverse the damage done since his arrival last November.
