Ruben Amorim 'Gave Ayden Heaven an Earful' During Aston Villa vs Man Utd

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was spotted giving Ayden Heaven ‘an earful’ during the game against Aston Villa, with Ollie Watkins getting ‘in behind too easily’, according to Steven Railston.

It was an end-to-end affair at Villa Park in the early stages of the first half, with Watkins and Benjamin Sesko both getting in behind on multiple occasions. Heaven once again lined up at the centre of United’s defence, partly due to a lack of options for Amorim with multiple players out injured or away at the African Cup of Nations.

With Heaven utilised in the centre of the back three, he’s often tasked with covering behind the United defence. Aston Villa often look to exploit this area due to the pace of Watkins, and Heaven was forced to recover on multiple occasions in the first half.

According to journalist Railston, Amorim was spotted in the first half giving an ‘earful’ to United centre-back Heaven. The young defender allowed Aston Villa striker Watkins to get in behind ‘too easily’ on more than one occasion, leading to Amorim expressing his annoyance in the early stages of the game.

Amorim is clearly a fan of Heaven, considering he’s giving him plenty of responsibility at a young age, but he’s not immune to criticism, and the Portuguese manager was making his feelings known at Villa Park.

Manchester United's Matthijs de Ligt celebrates scoring their second goal

It’s a mini defensive crisis for Amorim at the moment, which is perhaps a reason for Heaven’s extended run in the side. Matthijs De Ligt and Harry Maguire are both out injured, while Noussair Mazraoui has jetted off to the African Cup of Nations.

Lisandro Martinez is only just returning from a long-term injury, leaving Amorim with a lack of options at the back. Heaven has a real opportunity to stamp his authority in this United side, but he’s going to have to show more consistency if he wants to remain a regular starter when Martinez, De Ligt, and Maguire are all fit.
