Ruben Amorim was 'Going Berserk' at Joshua Zirkzee in Man Utd Win vs Newcastle

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was spotted ‘often going berserk’ during Joshua Zirkzee’s time on the pitch during the 1-0 win against Newcastle United on Friday night, according to Samuel Luckhurst.

Despite some injury issues and not being able to select players who had departed for AFCON, United picked up an impressive three points against Eddie Howe’s side at Old Trafford, despite the visitors having the majority of possession and chances.

Zirkzee came on for Benjamin Sesko on the hour-mark, but his performance caused both Amorim and Manchester United fans in the stands to become frustrated with the Netherlands international.

Amorim Unhappy With Zirkzee’s Pressing

While United were by no means comfortable throughout most of their clash against the Magpies, Sesko was linking up play and providing an out for United when they needed to get up the pitch and relieve some pressure.

However, the Slovenian could only last for 60 minutes before being replaced by Zirkzee, who has been heavily linked with a January exit to Roma in recent days.

Amorim – and the Old Trafford faithful – were visibly and audibly unimpressed by some of the aspects of the 24-year-old’s play, with his pressing leaving a lot to be desired.

Posting on X, Luckhurst said:

Amorim often going berserk at Zirkzee for not pressing or busting a gut.

United Need to Axe Zirkzee in January

It appeared that United would allow Zirkzee to depart Old Trafford next month if they signed Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, having really ‘pushed’ to sign the Ghana international.

However, the Premier League has opted to join arch-rivals Manchester City and unless there is a turn of fortunes or Pep Guardiola’s men fail to agree a deal with the south coast club, then United won’t be getting him.

Now, separate reports say that because United are short, the likes of Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo won’t be allowed to depart early in January, or perhaps at all.

United should axe Zirkzee in January regardless, however. The Dutchman has failed to make an impact at Old Trafford for the majority of his United career, and at a time when he could be fighting to salvage his time with the Red Devils, he simply didn’t against Newcastle.

Whether United would be willing to green light an exit for the Netherlands international without signing a replacement remains to be seen, but if they can offload Zirkzee towards the beginning of January – to Roma or elsewhere – then they would have the rest of the month to source an attacking addition.
