Sassuolo 0-3 Juventus: David ends goal drought in comfortable victory
Juventus ensured they remained in the top four in Serie A as quickfire goals from Fabio Miretti and Jonathan David helped them to a 3-0 win over Sassuolo on Tuesday.
It saw Luciano Spalletti’s team bounce back from their draw with Lecce last time out, putting themselves within three points of leaders Inter, who have two games in hand.
Juventus opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Pierre Kalulu’s cross from the right was diverted into his own net by the unfortunate Tarik Muharemovic from inside the box.
David then saw a tame effort comfortably saved by Arijanet Muric before the Sassuolo goalkeeper was on hand to deny Juventus talisman Kenan Yildiz twice in quick succession.
But Juventus doubled their lead just after the hour when David’s neat reverse pass sent Miretti through on goal, with the Italian staying composed before finishing into the net.
And just a minute later, the Bianconeri sealed the win through David, who capitalised on Jay Idzes’ poor bass pack before rounding Muric to score his second goal of the season.
Michele Di Gregorio preserved his clean sheet late on as he palmed away Nicholas Pierini’s free-kick, with Luca Lipani also drawing a fine stop from the Juventus goalkeeper.

Earlier in the day, Roma also ensured they kept pace with the front-runners in the division after a comfortable 2-0 victory over lowly Lecce at Stadio Ettore Giardiniero.
Evan Ferguson fired Roma into a 14th-minute lead after collecting Paulo Dybala’s deflected pass on the edge of the box before firing a low drive beyond Wladimiro Falcone.
And after Ferguson was substituted on the hour, his replacement, Artem Dovbyk, sealed all three points 19 minutes from time with a left-footed finish from Niccolo Pisilli’s centre.
Data Debrief: David back amongst the goals as Gasperini hits a 1000
After scoring on his Serie A debut against Parma back in August, many Juventus fans predicted David to hit the ground running. However, the Canadian took his time, and found the back of the net for the first time in the top flight in 135 days, ending the longest goal drought of his career across Ligue 1 and Serie A (16 matches).
Just 110 seconds separated Miretti and David’s strikes, which helped Juventus win three consecutive away games in Serie A for the first time since the period between December 2023 and January 2024 under Massimiliano Allegri.
Spalletti’s team were worthy of their win, registering an expected goals (xG) total of 2.53 from 17 shots to Sassuolo’s 0.22 from their six attempts.
But there was a special moment for Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini against Lecce. Indeed, he became only the third coach in the three-points-for-a-win era to reach 1000 points in Serie A, after Massimiliano Allegri (1050) and Luciano Spalletti (1017).
