Solanke hoping Dortmund win can be 'turning point' for Spurs

Dominic Solanke is hoping a positive run in the Champions League can be transformative to Tottenham’s season after a morale-boosting 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.

Thomas Frank earned a much-needed boost to his position as Spurs boss with the victory in North London which puts them within touching distance of the last 16.

After a poor Premier league campaign which has them languishing 14th in the table, Spurs have been pretty flawless in Europe, losing just one of their seven games.

On if this win could be a turning point for Spurs after putting a 2-1 defeat to West Ham behind them, Solanke told TNT Sports: “I hope so.

“We’ve done quite well in the Champions League and if you look back to last season and how well we did in the Europa League, it definitely gave the team confidence.

“We know we haven’t been good enough in Premier League this year so hopefully this gives us the extra boost, we can improve in the league and continue in the Champions League.

“When we’re all together – players, staff, fans – that’s key.

We’re all one club, we all want the same thing. We need to put the performances in on the pitch like we did tonight and hopefully we can carry on the momentum.”

It was a great night for Solanke, who not only started his first Spurs game since May last year but also notched his first Champions League goal – albeit in slightly fortuitous circumstances, with the ball ricocheting off both his feet before it slowly rolled into the net.

The striker said: “I would have preferred it to be a bit cleaner but a goal’s a goal.

“And I got to enjoy watching it go in in slow motion so it was nice in the end.

“I’m so happy to be back out here, it’s my first start since the last game of last season so to be back out here and get the win meant the world.

“The Champions League is the competition that everyone wants to play in, it’s the biggest club competition in the world.

“To get my first goal in it is something that you dream about.”
