Steph Curry Has Hilarious Reaction to Being Named NBA All-Star Starter
Stephen Curry has accomplished virtually everything within reach during his 17-year NBA career. And despite being 37 years old and clearly on the back nine of his career, the Golden State Warriors superstar is still racking up accolades.
Curry is a four-time NBA champion, two-time MVP and two-time scoring champion, and was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021.
The sharpshooter is enjoying another remarkable season, averaging 27.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game, while shooting 47 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three-point range.
The Davidson product revolutionized the sport with his three-point shooting prowess, encouraging the league – and sport – to model offenses around creating shooting opportunities from beyond the arc. Curry owns the NBA record for most three-point field goals made, with 4,212 and counting.
On his day, Curry is undoubtedly one of the most entertaining players in the Association, and is always one of the stars to watch during the NBA’s annual All-Star Game, earning two All-Star Game MVP awards for his performances.
On Monday, the North Carolina native was named as a starter for the Western Conference in this year’s NBA All-Star Game, earning his 12th selection to the annual showcase.
With the announcement, Curry became the oldest point guard to ever be named an All-Star starter, prompting a hilarious reaction from the man they call the “Baby-Faced Assassin”.
Curry Pokes Fun at Himself With All-Star Nod
Speaking to reporters following Golden State’s 135-112 win over the Miami Heat on Monday, Curry poked fun at himself after being asked about what it meant to be named an All-Star starter so late in his career.
“I love the fact that pretty much every acknowledgment you get at this point is you’re the oldest to do something.”
Curry did go on to give a more thoughtful answer, sharing his gratitude and humility in light of the honor.
“I don’t even take that for granted,” Curry added. “I appreciate everybody who voted, my teammates who continue to set the table for me to do what I do and keep pushing the envelope of what’s possible at this stage of my career. I’m very grateful and I’m gonna enjoy the weekend.”
Curry also mentioned that he still loves the work that goes into maintaining his elite level of play, and that he hopes to keep it up for a few more years.
“Just the idea that I can get back to that level year after year and the work that goes into it, I love it. Hopefully, I have a couple more in the future, but this is pretty special, for sure.”
Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama are the four other starters in the West that will line up with Curry at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles on Feb. 15.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Cade Cunningham and Tyrese Maxey were voted as the starters to represent the Eastern Conference.
