Sunderland Table Club-Record Bid to Sign Real Madrid Star Brahim Diaz
Sunderland have tabled a club-record £52m bid to sign Real Madrid playmaker Brahim Diaz this month, according to Fichajes.
Diaz has been at the Santiago Bernabeu for a number of years, though with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler, Dani Ceballos and Franco Mastantuono battling for minutes, it could well be a losing battle for minutes on Diaz’s behalf.
However, the Moroccan star – who garnered a cap for Spain in 2021 – also has an impressive 13 goals in 22 games for his country, and so whichever club lands him after Real Madrid will be attaining a superb talent, which could be Sunderland.
Sunderland Make £52m Bid For Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz
The report by Spanish outlet Fichajes states that Real Madrid have received two offers for Brahim Diaz, both at €60million (£52million) – and one of them is from Sunderland.
The La Liga giants face a crucial decision in the transfer market, and with Diaz having only played in 17 percent of Real’s possible minutes this season, it’s a figure that the club will have to consider.
It would be a fixed fee of £39million with add-ons totalling £13million, and Sunderland’s offer is ‘very attractive’.
Interest is strong, with the Black Cats showing their willingness to make a significant investment in Diaz, who would become a key figure in their sporting project.
The Moroccan international, who recently hit the headlines for missing a last-minute Panenka penalty in the Africa Cup of Nations final, has just 18 months left on his contract and so a move away from the club is on the cards. But his performances in that tournament also saw his national team manager state that he ‘can be the best player in the world’.
Diaz would take on a leading role if he was to join the Black Cats, slotting into their midfield ranks to provide players such as Brian Brobbey with chances, boosting their top half chances in the process. But whether they can get a deal over the line for the creative star is another story.
Brahim Diaz’s Career Stats Mean he Would be a Coup For Sunderland
Diaz, born in Malaga, grew up at his hometown club but ultimately joined Manchester City at the age of 16.
He spent four years at City, scoring twice for the club in 15 games in all competitions, but a lack of first-team minutes saw him make the switch to Real Madrid. From there, he’s made 139 appearances for the club as well as a three-year loan stint at AC Milan, where he notched 18 goals in 124 games for the Rossoneri.
Those numbers will be enough for him to shine in the Premier League, especially in Regis Le Bris’ system.
