Adam Idah’s stoppage-time goal secured the bragging rights for Swansea City as they overcame Wrexham 2-1 in Friday’s Welsh derby in the Championship.

Vitor Matos’ hosts were the better team for long periods at Swansea.com Stadium but had to fight back from 1-0 down for a victory that lifts them within two points of their rivals.

Wrexham’s first real attack of the game, in the 14th minute, saw Swansea centre-back Cameron Burgess head Ryan Longman’s right-wing delivery into his own net.

No Wrexham player attempted a shot in the first half, though, and the visitors had their backs against the wall as Swansea fired off 12 efforts before the interval, with Burgess missing one decent opportunity to atone for his own goal.

The visitors made it to the 70th minute still 1-0 up, but their lead was wiped out when Zan Vipotnik’s shot on the turn deflected in off Dom Hyam.

Wrexham then built some momentum as they looked to re-establish their lead, but instead, goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo missed two chances to claim an Ethan Galbraith free-kick in stoppage time, with Idah gratefully tapping home.

Swansea were winless in their last nine league games against Wrexham coming into this one (two draws, seven defeats), though this was the teams’ first meeting since 2003.

The Swans had to rally from 1-0 down to take all three points, after Burgess scored his third own goal of 2025-26 already – the most of any player playing in English football’s top four tiers.

Swansea finished the game having amassed 2.12 expected goals (xG) to Wrexham’s 0.35, also out-shooting their visitors 22 to five.

While Matos’ team now sit 17th in the table, Wrexham are just two points and two places better off.
