Szoboszlai scores thunderbolt to open the scoring for Liverpool in FA Cup vs Barnsley
Dominik Szoboszlai hit a stunning long-range strike to put Liverpool ahead against Barnsley in the FA Cup third round.
League One Barnsley had made an excellent start at Anfield, hitting the post with a Davis Keilor-Dunn header with less than 30 seconds on the clock to send a few scares around Merseyside.
Tykes’ Reyes Cleary also got the wrong side of Virgil van Dijk and put a teasing cross into the box and it looked like the third-tier were ready to add another upset to the FA Cup third round weekend.
But up stepped Szoboszlai to put those early hopes to bed as he opened the scoring with perhaps the goal of the third round.
Picking the ball up off Alexis Mac Allister, the Hungary midfielder was afforded too much space as he let fly with a dipping effort which flew into the top corner.
It was the Liverpool midfielder’s sixth goal of the season and the latest in a long range of strikes from distance.
