Milan are ready to welcome Niclas Füllkrug from West Ham and are expected to make investments in young players in January, but are not raising the bar.

Milan are waiting for Niclas Füllkrug. The deal is a loan with an option to buy set between €11m and €13m and is down to the final details.

The Rossoneri are ready to welcome the German forward who flopped at West Ham and is now eager to start a fresh chapter in Serie A to rediscover the form that once made him shine in the Bundesliga.

Could Milan have done more? Of course, but today’s Milan are sticking to basic housekeeping after splashing out vast sums last summer, investments that have so far delivered little in return.

Those responsible for the recruitment, can hardly take pride in the outcome. Milan are not raising the bar, and it scarcely matters that the last truly reliable centre-forward feels like a relic from a bygone era.

At best, there will be modest investments in your prospects. Colombian full-back Arizala is close to joining, while the club is considering insisting on Montenegrin striker Kostic, born in 2007. That’s about it.

As for the nostalgic who recently tried to conduct the transfer market on the club’s behalf, championing and announcing a sensational return of Thiago Silva, it was all time wasted.

The club intends to grow on its own terms, postponing to tomorrow what should have been done yesterday.

Perhaps, a defender will arrive, but only at bargain prices. All while waiting for someone to present the bill for last summer’s floods of spending, which, Rabiot aside, has so far delivered not even 20 per cent of the expected return.
