Thomas Frank Must Make Major U-Turn on Lucas Bergvall to Save Tottenham Job
Thomas Frank may live to regret his handling of Lucas Bergvall as pressure builds around his job.
The Tottenham boss is under increasing scrutiny after a difficult start to life at the club in which they have won just seven of 21 matches in the Premier League this term. A 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth on Wednesday night means that Frank’s side have picked up just one win in their last six games.
While Spurs have a number of injury issues, Frank has tried to shuffle his pack in order to get results back on track, but one key decision is proving costly.
Lucas Bergvall Is Not A Winger
In an attempt to shake up Tottenham’s attack in recent weeks, Thomas Frank has opted to move Lucas Bergvall away from his natural position.
Usually a central midfielder, the ‘unstoppable’ Bergvall has been utilised as a left winger, much to the frustration of the watching supporters. A player who looks to use his technical quality to dictate play, the Swedish star has really struggled on the flanks due to being unable to influence games in his usual manner.
Lasting just 57 minutes of the clash with Bournemouth, Bergvall was forced off with what looked like a painful muscle injury. After weeks of Frank using him out of position, it seems likely that he may have to do without him at all in the weeks ahead.
The question is whether this will be a problem for Frank himself, or if it’ll be a conundrum for the next Tottenham boss with the ex-Brentford head coach under real pressure.
Thomas Frank Under Huge Pressure
Failing to get the best out of Bergvall is just the latest in a series of underwhelming moments for Thomas Frank. Honestly, it’s no surprise that he’s feeling the heat as Tottenham boss.
Results simply haven’t been good enough, but fans are also unimpressed with the performances of the team with the usual attack-minded philosophy of Tottenham Hotspur simply not being met.
Frank is not getting the best out of anybody in the current Tottenham team and that’s a big problem. Bergvall is one of the most talented players in the Spurs squad right now, but fans aren’t seeing his best as a result of being played out of position.
Unless something changes quickly, it’s difficult to see Frank staying as manager for the long run. It doesn’t seem like a good fit and after another defeat to Bournemouth, pressure will continue to rise.
