Martin O'Neill looks on from the Celtic dugout

Tomas Cvancara has been spotted travelling to Glasgow after Celtic beat rivals Rangers to agree a deal, as per Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.

After caretaker manager Martin O’Neill revealed that the Bhoys were going ‘all out’ in the market this month, all they had to show for the opening 20 days of the window was a loan move for Bournemouth right-back Julian Araujo.

The attack has been a priority position for strengthening as the club looks to win the Scottish Premiership title ahead of current leaders Hearts and Rangers this term.

Having been beaten to the signing of Jocelin Ta Bi by Premier League side Sunderland, Celtic now finally appear on the verge of landing a new forward who had been tipped as a major Rangers target earlier on Tuesday.

Cvancara to Complete Medical on Wednesday

According to Plettenberg, posting on X on Tuesday night, the Czechia striker was travelling to the UK with his agent to complete his medical after Celtic agreed a ‘smart’ deal with Borussia Monchengladbach.

The full agreement between the two clubs is for a six-month loan including a purchase option, with the Glasgow giants set to cover the player’s full salary until the end of the campaign.

Even though the 25-year-old could pass a medical tomorrow, Plettenberg added that the deal might not be announced until Thursday.

Cvancara Could Kill Two Birds With One Stone

Martin O'Neill

While Cvancara has been signed to play as a centre-forward at Parkhead, he could solve another shortcoming for O’Neill in the coming weeks and months.

Celtic’s need for a new right-winger has been clear for many months, stretching back to the summer transfer window, with Luke McCowan one of the players used out of position there in recent weeks.

Being beaten to Ta Bi was a huge blow as the Bhoys looked set to finally find a solution to the problem, but Cvancara could boost them on the right too – in the short-term.

As per Transfermarkt, Cvancara has played on the right wing 28 times during his career, so he is no stranger to taking up the position if needed.

That could be a useful weapon for O’Neill, even though he is expected to play through the centre most of the time.

Who Else Could Celtic Sign in January?

Ignacio Laquintana

It remains to be seen if Celtic could target another striker after Cvancara, following recent links to the likes of Mohamed Bamba and David Datro Fofana.

However, right wing still has to be a priority for Celtic and Ignacio Laquintana is one player they have held talks to sign, on loan with an option to buy.

The Bhoys have also had discussions over a move for Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, with Hungarian winger Damir Redzic another reported target.
