Tottenham and Aston Villa charged over FA Cup fracas
Tottenham and Aston Villa each face discipline from the FA following a confrontation at the end of their FA Cup tie in North London.
Tottenham and Aston Villa have each been charged with misconduct following a fracas between their two sets of players at the end of Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie.
The two teams were involved in a tussle at the conclusion of Villa’s 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
A statement from the Football Association read: “Tottenham Hotspur FC and Aston Villa FC have been charged with misconduct following their FA Cup match on Saturday 10 January.
“It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or officials did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way after the final whistle. Aston Villa FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC have until Friday 16 January to provide a response.”
Villa prevailed thanks to goals from Emiliano Buendia and Morgan Rogers, with Wilson Odobert pulling one back for Tottenham, for whom the Champions League now represents their sole, albeit unlikely, path to silverware.
Unai Emery’s Villa will host Newcastle United in the fourth round next month.
