Tottenham Ready to Sign Bayern Munich Star Leon Goretzka on Free Transfer
Tottenham Hotspur could be in the race to sign Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka in the coming months, according to reports – with the German set to see his contract expire at the Allianz Arena.
Spurs have already landed two players this winter, with Englishman and former Chelsea star Conor Gallagher landing in for £35million from Atletico Madrid for his Premier League return, whilst teenage defender Souza joined from Santos on Thursday as a second addition for Thomas Frank.
However, the Dane may not be done there even though his job security is under scrutiny, with Goretzka being linked with a move at the end of the campaign once his contract with Bayern runs out after eight years of service.
Report: Tottenham ‘At the Negotiating Table’ for Leon Goretzka
The report by Christian Falk states that Barcelona are not interested in signing Goretzka, despite his affiliation with former boss Hansi Flick, who is currently manager at the Nou Camp.
With the midfielder set to be a free agent in the summer, he’s set to move on from the Bundesliga champions, and a lack of a transfer fee means there will inevitably be more teams interested despite his estimated £300,000-a-week contract.
With that in mind, Tottenham are ‘still at the negotiating table’, alongside other Italian clubs such as Juventus and AC Milan.
It’s clear that Goretzka will be on the shortlist of Champions League clubs next season, though Tottenham’s poor form in the Premier League may play a role in his decision. The Lilywhites are currently 14th in the table, just five points clear of last season’s shambolic 17th-placed standing, and they are already nine points adrift of a guaranteed Champions League spot.
Whether Goretzka will opt for a place in the Champions League remains to be seen, potentially being swayed by Tottenham’s offer of Premier League football and big wages, but they are in the race for his signature and Thomas Frank could see the German international move to the capital of England.
Goretzka’s Experience Could be Vital for Tottenham
Goretzka is set to turn 31 shortly, meaning he still has a lot of time left at the top of the European game.
He’s made over 300 appearances at Bundesliga level, as well as a further 86 appearances in European competitions.
67 Germany caps have also garnered 15 goals, and with six Bundesliga titles, two German Cups and a Champions League under his belt, that experience will be invaluable for Spurs if they are to win more trophies after their Europa League triumph this season.
