Tottenham Star Lucas Bergvall ‘Badly Injured’, Ruled Out for 3 Months
Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank has received some untimely news in terms of his Lilywhites future – with young midfield prodigy Lucas Bergvall being ruled out for ‘two to three months’ after being hauled off on the hour against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night in the Champions League.
Bergvall has been a first-team regular at Tottenham ever since his move from Djurgarden in 2024, featuring in 71 games for Spurs since his move from the Allsvenskan, and he’s only missed seven games from a possible 33 under Frank, some due to concussion protocols.
However, that run of games will come to an end, according to reports from Sweden, with reports stating that Bergvall will be out for up to three months, missing a huge chunk of Tottenham’s season in the Premier League.
Report: Lucas Bergvall Out for ‘Up to Three Months’, Will Miss World Cup Playoffs
The report by Swedish outlet Fotboll Skanalen states that Bergvall will be injured for up to three months, casting huge doubts on his availability for Tottenham for the rest of the season.
The ‘unstoppable‘ star won’t feature in Sweden’s play-off for the 2026 World Cup against Ukraine at the end of March, and if Bergvall does only return in mid-to-late April, then he’ll only be able to partake in the final five games of Spurs’ Premier League campaign.
Further to that, Bergvall would miss Spurs’ Champions League crusade, up to and including the quarter-final stage if they get that far into the competition.
Spurs are already out of the domestic cups, and need a revival in the Premier League, so they do need as many first-team stars as possible. Bergvall’s injury does not help that and with Frank losing one of his midfield stars, it makes the signing of Conor Gallagher even more important if they are to at least finish in the European spots in the table.
Lucas Bergvall Must Hope Results go His Way Despite Absence
The injury couldn’t come at a worse time for Bergvall. As one of Sweden’s star players, he will be needed heading into their World Cup play-off double header and Potter won’t be able to count on him to drag them to the tournament in North America.
Furthermore, there is only two months between Bergvall’s return, and the tournament starting. If they do qualify, he may not be at his best.
Adding to that, he won’t have any say in deciding Spurs’ fate for the rest of the campaign, forced to watch from the sides. There is no doubting the youngster has a huge future in the game but this will be a cruel blow to the biggest few months of his career.
