Tottenham are poised to wrap up another deal this week after their sudden signing of Conor Gallagher from Atlético Madrid, according to reliable Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold.

Spurs hijack Aston Villa to seal Conor Gallagher deal

Gallagher has actually been on the Lilywhites’ radar for quite some time, but they were forced to jump in and hijack his transfer to Aston Villa in what is a big boost for under-fire boss Thomas Frank.

Yves Bissouma is out of contract this summer, albeit the club have an option to extend by a further year, and the Mali international is not believed to be in their long-term plans.

Rodrigo Bentancur has also undergone surgery on a hamstring problem which is expected to rule him out for three months, leaving Frank very short of midfield options.

Spurs are still yet to make a decision on whether they will trigger the buy-option clause in Joao Palhinha’s loan deal from Bayern Munich too, so it is clear as day why they decided to emphatically join the race for Gallagher.

The former Chelsea captain was believed to be on the verge of a Villa move after Unai Emery’s side struck a verbal agreement with Atlético, but Spurs reportedly gazumped their Premier League rivals by offering around £8.5 million more.

This, combined with Gallagher’s eagerness to join the north Londoners, resulted in Spurs finally signing the box-to-box midfielder who was also a long-time target for Ange Postecoglou (Matt Law).

The 25-year-old is now undergoing medical tests ahead of his £34 million switch to Spurs, with Gallagher looking to gain more minutes and battle for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.

Gallagher’s arrival will not only bring dynamism to Frank’s midfield, but it’ll also do wonders to fill the club’s dwindling homegrown quota.

Alongside Gallagher, Tottenham are also believed to have a sealed a £13 million deal for Santos left-back Souza, though confirmation of his signing is taking slightly longer than anticipated.

Now, Gold has provided a fresh update on social media.

Tottenham to ‘tie up’ Souza signing ‘on Thursday’ with arrival tomorrow

According to the reporter, Souza is due to touch down in England tomorrow, and Tottenham could tie up the Brazilian’s signing, pending formalities, on Thursday.

The highly-rated young defender, famed for his attitude and versatility by South American football experts like Tim Vickery, is also pushing for a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil side for the World Cup this year — which says a lot about him.

Even though Souza has limited top-level experience, his performances for a Santos side which battled relegation last season have really caught the eye.

He’ll be a welcome addition to a Spurs side who are pretty short of long-term left-back cover for Destiny Udogie, with Ben Davies coming as their only natural alternative on that flank.

After Gallagher and Souza, the onus is surely on Tottenham to sign a new attacker and provide Frank with the extra creativity he so desperately needs.

Antoine Semenyo already rejected Spurs before the January window opened, with Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche among the plan B options reportedly being considered.
