Tyson Fury was ‘uneasy’ and visibly ‘disagreed with himself’ in his retirement video, a body language expert has claimed.
The Gypsy King sent shockwaves around the world on Monday when he announced he’d be quitting, just weeks after losing to Oleksandr Usyk for a second time.
In the video, which was posted on Instagram, Fury said: “Hi everybody, I’ll make this short and sweet, I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing, I’ve loved every single minute of it.
“I’m going to end with this, Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, I’ll see you on the other side.”
Body language expert Inbaal Honigman, speaking to Action Network, has now reacted to the clip.
She feels Fury was ‘uneasy’ giving the speech, saying: “Fury’s short video includes a lot of body language information, even though we only see him from the chest up for ten seconds.
“When he says the announcement will be short and sweet, he is nodding, so he believes in what he says, but when he says ‘retirement from boxing’, he presses his mouth very briefly.
“This is a self-soothing gesture, suggesting that he might not be thrilled about this happening at this moment. He is uneasy.”

Honigman then expressed a belief that Fury was ‘disagreeing with himself’ during the clip.
She continued: “When Fury says that he’s loved every single minute of it, he shakes his head strongly from side to side, meaning ‘no’.
“He has not loved every single minute of it. He’s visibly disagreeing with himself.
“His Dick Turpin comment is accompanied by a pointing finger, which shows an accusation or an attempt at dominance.
“This says that the former boxer is trying to have the upper hand in an existing disagreement.
“This statement is followed by yet another tightening of his mouth, again soothing himself at a time of immense pressure. He ends the video with a quick salute, which is a mark of respect, and with an invigorating call to ‘get up!’.
“As he shouts, his brow is furrowed which can indicate annoyance. As soon as he’s finished his message, his face is smooth and turns calmer, turning into a peaceful smile for just a moment.
“Perhaps filming the message was more stressful to him than actually retiring.”

The Gypsy King has previously retired on four separate occasions, only to end up coming back each and every time.
Fury, before hanging up his gloves, lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.
But there’s still a chance he could come back, with a bout against Anthony Joshua long in the works.
