Chelsea are now confident about sealing a deal for a “powerful” defender, who is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, with talks currently ongoing.

Blues eyeing defender despite recalling Anselmino

The Blues recently made the decision to recall Aaron Anselmino from his loan at Borussia Dortmund, with Liam Rosenior confirming he is set to hold talks with the centre-back in the coming days, saying: “I’m due to have a conversation with Aaron.

“He’s not back yet until Thursday and Friday. Hopefully, from there, we can make his situation clearer.

“He’s had a great start to the season at Dortmund, and I need to have a conversation with him about our future plans.”

Anselmino has started to get some senior experience under his belt, making ten appearances for Dortmund in all competitions, including three in the Champions League, which suggests he could be ready to push for a spot in Rosenior’s starting XI.

The decision to recall the Argentinian comes amid interest in Axel Disasi, with West Ham United recently opening talks over a deal for the Frenchman, who hasn’t made a single appearance in all competitions this season.

Not only that, but the Blues have also been unable to get a deal for Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet over the line thus far, but there has now been an encouraging new update on their pursuit of the defender.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Chelsea are in ongoing talks to sign Jacquet, and they are confident about sealing a deal for the centre-back, despite rival interest from Real Madrid, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Liverpool, as he is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

With the French club holding out for over £52.1m, however, a deal is likely to be on the expensive side, and the move may have to wait until the end of the season, as Rennes would prefer not to sanction a sale this month.

Rosenior’s side are now open to waiting until the summer to sign the Frenchman, at which point he could be a fantastic addition to the squad…

“Powerful” Jacquet could be exciting addition for Chelsea

Scout Ben Mattinson has praised the Rennes star for his ability to win back possession, saying last May: “Jacquet has long powerful legs that enable him to reach further in slide tackles. His slide tackling technique is exceptional.

“His legs enable him to make standing tackles where he collects the ball and glides away with the ball.”

Not only is the 20-year-old an impressive tackler, but he also reads the game well too, averaging 1.1 interceptions per game in Ligue 1 this season, the joint-second highest of any Rennes player.

With Chelsea recalling Anselmino, they should be well-stocked at centre-back for the remainder of the season, but Jacquet has proven he could be a solid summer addition.
