Valencia make approach for Premier League star who wants to join Man United
Valencia have now made an approach to sign a Premier League star who has his heart set on a move to Man United, according to a new report.
United have adopted a somewhat conservative stance in January so far after Michael Carrick‘s appointment as interim manager until the end of the season, with the club prioritizing squad stability over immediate reinforcements.
According to ESPN, the board hopes Carrick can work with the current squad, with little plans to sign any big names in January (ManchesterWorld).
The decision would represent a significant shift from earlier speculation that funds would be available for squad strengthening, with United reportedly preferring to delay major recruitment until the summer when a permanent manager is in place.
However, there appears to be some flexibility in United’s approach.
Reports suggest that finances will be available should any opportunity be too good to turn down, with Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves mentioned as a potential £20 million target should circumstances align.
Man United ready ‘blockbuster’ move for Chelsea superstar to replace Bruno Fernandes
There’s been quite a bold claim today.
The one area where Carrick and sporting director Jason Wilcox are actively exploring options is out wide.
Reports suggest a left-winger has emerged as the priority position following Carrick talks with Wilcox (Football Insider), with the club scouring the market for suitable options.
This position has become critical following the summer departures of Alejandro Garnacho and Antony, plus Marcus Rashford’s loan move to Barcelona.
Carrick’s expected switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation means United require traditional wide players, yet current options Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo are both more comfortable on the right flank.
Despite this tactical need, United’s top midfield targets, including Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton remain unavailable this month.
The club has also ruled out some significant outgoings, with Joshua Zirkzee, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte all expected to remain despite speculation linking them with exits.
Carrick faces Saturday’s Manchester derby before visiting Arsenal, making his opening fixtures a stern test of whether United’s current squad possesses enough quality without meaningful January additions.
Valencia make approach for Frank Onyeka after Man United admission
In what was an interesting turn of events this week, Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka admitted to a Red Devils supporter that he wants to join Man United.
The Nigerian, who has just impressed at AFCON, was asked by United fan Hussain Vorajee about whether he’d join the Red Devils, and his response was emphatic.
“Yes of course,” he said, via Punch Sports.
“I want to play for Manchester United.”
After this candid admission, Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has now shared some news about Onyeka’s future.
According to his information, Valencia have now made an approach for the 28-year-old, but Championship leaders Coventry City and Birmingham City are also plotting moves for Onyeka.
The midfielder has really struggled for game time under Keith Andrews and a January exit definitely cannot be ruled out, but despite his wish to join Carrick’s side, Valencia is a far more realistic move for him.
Onyeka did enjoy a productive loan spell at Augsburg last season, where fans of his nicknamed him ‘the tank’, though a transfer to United appears far out of reach for him.
