Championship Week rolls on Friday with several semifinal games on the schedule featuring some of the best teams in the country. It’s definitely more fun to make picks for semifinal games with the stakes elevated even higher.

Today’s NCAA Basketball Best Bets will feature three conference semifinal contests.

Let’s get started by talking about the Big Easy Tournament Semifinal featuring the Georgetown Hoyas and No. 6 Connecticut Huskies before moving on to ACC and Big 12 Semifinal games.

Big East Tournament – Semifinal: Georgetown vs. No. 6 UConn

Georgetown ended the regular season with a 14-17 record after going 1-7 down the stretch. They should have been an early out in the Big East Tournament, but instead, they upset Villanova to earn a spot in the semifinals. Cinderellas win all the time; could they do it again?

If the regular season is any indication, maybe. The Hoyas and Huskies played twice, UConn won both, but by a two-point margin in one (64-62) and a four-point margin in the other (79-75). But on paper, these games shouldn’t have even been close.

My Pick: UConn -13.5 at -106

I’m a little nervous about this one because of the regular-season games being so close. But after watching the beatdown they gave Xavier, the dominant version of UConn appears to be back. The Huskies will cover this large spread.

ACC Tournament – Semifinal: Clemson vs. No. 1 Duke

If the Clemson Tigers were wondering how to beat Duke, the Florida State Seminoles were kind enough to give them a blueprint Thursday night: hit 52% of your shots, including 10+ three-pointers, force turnovers, and generate points from those turnovers.

In Clemson’s regular-season matchup with Duke, they shot 35% from the floor, hit 6 of 24 three-pointers, and scored eight points off nine turnovers (Duke scored 13 off ten).

The Tigers are certainly competitive on the defensive end (No. 23 in the country, 66.2 points per game allowed). But not so much on the offensive end (No. 223, 77.4 points per game). They are a decent three-point shooting team (34%) and are capable of generating turnovers (11.59 per game).

My Pick: Duke -11.5

Clemson’s defense will keep them from getting blown out, but their offense is going to struggle against the Duke defense (No. 2 in the country, 62.5 points per game allowed).

Big 12 Tournament – Semifinal: No. 14 Kansas vs. No. 5 Houston

Kansas was the third loss in Houston’s three-game losing streak late in the season and essentially beat the Cougars at their own game: they played better defense. Houston shot a dreadful 32% in that game, while Kansas made one more shot (22 to 21) and took 16 fewer shots (50 to 66).

The Jayhawks also won the three-point line, going 7-17 while holding Houston to 5-24.

The Cougars rebounded with three strong wins to close the regular season and had a solid outing against BYU in their tournament opener. Kansas came out on top of a battle with TCU in the quarterfinals Thursday night.

My Pick: Houston -5.5

Kansas deserved to win their first meeting with Houston, but the Cougars defense is too good not to have a better performance this time around. Houston’s balanced offense will get the job done this time against the Jayhawks defense.

Jazz take on Kings in battle of worst in the West

Published

The two worst teams in the Western Conference will square off Sunday night when the Sacramento Kings host the Utah Jazz.

The Kings are showing life with three wins in their past four games, including an impressive takedown of the host Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night during the front end of a back-to-back. That was Sacramento’s 17th triumph of the season.

The Jazz, who were off Saturday, have dropped 10 of their past 12 games. They have 20 victories.

Utah was fined $500,000 in mid-February for tanking – “conduct detrimental to the league” was the official declaration – but apparently Sacramento won’t have any such worries based on its 118-109 victory over the Clippers.

The Kings led by as many 20 points and shot a sizzling 58.5% from the field while outrebounding the Clippers 48-35.

DeMar DeRozan recorded 27 points and seven assists, Precious Achiuwa had 25 points and 13 rebounds and Maxime Raynaud added 23 points. That trio combined to make 32 of 40 shots (80%).

“It was a collective effort,” DeRozan said of the victory. “I know where we’re at record-wise. Me being one of the veterans, we’re just trying to build winning habits and tell the young guys we have to go there and compete every night.”

Russell Westbrook was just 4-of-15 shooting but had 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists for his second triple-double in three games to extend his NBA career record to 209.

One of Westbrook’s six triple-doubles this season came in a 128-119 road loss against the Jazz on Nov. 28. He had 16 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds that night.

Utah has won two of the teams’ three meetings heading into Sunday’s final matchup of the campaign. DeRozan is eyeing a split of the season series.

“We go back home, feed off our crowd and try to get another win,” DeRozan said.

Utah is experiencing a dreadful season and it continued with Friday night’s 124-114 loss against the Portland Trail Blazers in the opener of a three-game road trip.

The Jazz led by 18 in the first quarter but couldn’t emerge victorious despite racking up 16 steals and forcing 24 turnovers.

“The activity and the aggressiveness is exactly how we want to play,” Utah coach Will Hardy said. “Sixteen steals for us is an incredibly high number.”

Third-year pro Brice Sensabaugh made six 3-pointers for the second straight game and had 31 points. He scored 29 two nights earlier in a 134-117 home loss to the New York Knicks.

Cody Williams, in his second season, added a career-best 19 points on 7-of-17 shooting against Portland.

“Cody has grown up a ton,” Hardy said. “For him to take 17 shots in this game, it’s showing that he’s growing in the variety of shots he can get off and the aggressiveness in playing towards the rim. Cody has grown a lot as a player and young man, and with that comfort you’re seeing more aggressiveness on the court.”

Season-long bright spot Keyonte George (right hamstring) will miss his second straight game and is expected to miss at least two weeks.

That’s a rough blow for George, who is among the leading candidates for the league’s Most Improved Player award.

The third-year guard is averaging 23.6 points and 6.1 assists and has made 37.1% of his 3-point shots, all representing career-best stats.

George has played in 54 games and needs to play in 65 to be eligible for NBA awards. Counting the clash with the Kings, Utah has just 15 games remaining, which means George can only miss four more games.

West Asia conflict scraps Messi vs Yamal show as Finalissima is cancelled | Football News

Published

on

A highly anticipated meeting between Argentina and Spain — and with it the prospect of Lionel Messi facing teenage star Lamine Yamal — has been called off after organisers abandoned plans to stage the 2026 Finalissima. The match between the reigning champions of South America and Europe collapsed after efforts to relocate the fixture from Qatar failed and negotiations between UEFA and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) reached a dead end.

The cancellation ends hopes of a rare encounter between two players from vastly different eras of football. Messi, Argentina’s World Cup-winning captain and one of the sport’s most decorated players, was set to face Spain’s emerging talent Yamal in what many expected to be a symbolic passing-of-the-torch moment.

Regional tensions derail original Qatar plan

The Finalissima had initially been scheduled for March 27 in Qatar. However, organisers were forced to reconsider the venue after tensions in West Asia raised concerns over staging the match in the region.

Following discussions between UEFA and authorities in Qatar, it was concluded that the fixture could no longer be hosted there on the planned date. The decision triggered an urgent attempt to identify an alternative venue that could accommodate both teams within the tight international calendar.

For UEFA, the development represented a major logistical setback. Qatar had been considered a suitable host given its experience of organising large-scale international events and its modern football infrastructure.

Madrid option fails to secure agreement

With Qatar ruled out, UEFA proposed shifting the match to Spain, suggesting Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium as the replacement venue. The plan aimed to retain the original date while offering equal ticket allocations to supporters from both nations.

Hosting the game at the Bernabeu — one of football’s most iconic stadiums — was viewed as a practical solution that would preserve the prestige of the event. However, the proposal did not receive backing from Argentina’s football federation, which declined the offer.

The rejection stalled negotiations and complicated efforts to keep the one-off contest on the international calendar.

Two-match compromise also rejected

In an attempt to rescue the fixture, UEFA later suggested a revised format that would involve two matches rather than a single final. Under the proposal, Spain would host the first leg in Madrid, with Argentina staging the return game in Buenos Aires during a future international window before the 2028 European Championship and Copa America.

The arrangement was intended to ensure competitive balance by allowing both teams to play at home while also easing concerns over venue neutrality.

Despite the compromise, the AFA again turned down the proposal, leaving organisers with no viable option to stage the match.

Fans miss out on generational duel

With no agreement reached, the Finalissima has been abandoned altogether. The outcome deprives fans of what could have been one of the most compelling international fixtures of the year.

Beyond the trophy at stake, the contest had generated excitement because of the potential meeting between Messi and Yamal. The Argentine captain, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in football history, would have faced Spain’s teenage winger, who has quickly emerged as one of the sport’s most promising young talents.

Liverpool vs Tottenham LIVE: Latest team news and line-ups from Premier League clash

Published

Igor Tudor set to roll dice on Archie Gray at centre-back against Liverpool

Igor Tudor has hinted Tottenham will stick with a back-three for Sunday’s trip to Liverpool, with “beautiful guy” Archie Gray in line to play centre-back.

A feature of Tudor’s disastrous four-match tenure at Spurs has been his tendency to put square pegs in round holes, with midfielder Joao Palhinha and right-back Pedro Porro used out of position in the Croatian’s favoured 3-4-2-1 formation.

Palhinha played centre-back in Tudor’s debut 4-1 loss to Arsenal and Porro was used there for last week’s worrying home defeat to Crystal Palace. Even though Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Palhinha are absent at Anfield, the 47-year-old looks likely to keep faith with a three-man defence.

Arne Slot provides Liverpool injury update with Alisson Becker doubtful to face Tottenham

The Brazil shot-stopper was missing in the 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray, with Arne Slot’s side left with a last 16 deficit before next week’s return leg at Anfield.

Giorgi Mamardashvili deputised for Alisson, but Arne Slot has provided an update on his No 1’s condition and the chances of facing relegation-threatened Spurs.

Team news

Tottenham’s injury list remains extensive, not helped by Micky van de Ven’s silly red card against Crystal Palace which sees him suspended for this clash. Cristian Romero and Palhinha’s availability is up in the air after a clash of heads against Atleti, forcing both off the pitch. Destiny Udogie is also a doubt with a thigh problem, while Guglielmo Vicario will surely return to the starting XI after Antonin Kinsky’s disaster in Madrid.

Team news

Alisson could return for Liverpool after missing the defeat at Galatasaray through injury, while Arne Slot also added that Federico Chiesa could also return to contention following illness. Slot also provided an update on Alexander Isak, who is still managing his rehabilitation and is hopeful of a return in the coming weeks.

Liverpool vs Tottenham live

Igor Tudor is hoping for a drastic change in fortunes to save his and Tottenham’s skin as the relegation-threatened giants travel to Liverpool.

Liverpool will see the visit of a Spurs side devoid of inspiration as the perfect chance to get back to winning ways, while Tudor will know the walls are already closing in on his interim tenure.

Defeat at Anfield could see Tottenham, winless in 2026, finally drop into the drop zone, having gone into the weekend a mere point ahead of Nottingham Forest and West Ham below them.

Abhishek Sharma Reveals ‘Social Media’ Advice From Gautam Gambhir, Suryakumar Yadav Amid Poor T20 World Cup Form

Published

on

Indian cricket team star batter Abhishek Sharma did not have the best of starts to the T20 World Cup 2026. The youngster was struggling massively after a hat-trick of ducks in the group stage. However, he slowly regained his form and slammed a brilliant half-century in the final to guide his team to victory over New Zealand. During the tough period when Abhishek was struggling to score runs, India skipper Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir stepped in to support the opener. During his appearance at the India Today Conclave, Abhishek revealed the advice that he received from Gambhir and Suryakumar before admitting that he was close to an ’emotional breakdown’ after registering his second consecutive duck.

“Slowly you get used to it. But it does feel bad (when there is criticism). That is going to happen in India because people have a lot of expectations from you. After I scored three ducks, Surya, GG sir and Hardik Pandya came to me and said, ‘Phone pakad, social media hata abhi ke abhi [take your phone and uninstall social media right now]’,” Abhishek said.

“That was the first thing I did after my second zero. That actually helped me a bit. I was getting a lot of suggestions and comments from people. That’s how a cricketer’s life is. You have to listen and you will be criticised. All you can do is listen and ignore. That is because they have a lot of expectations from you. Sometimes you deliver and sometimes you don’t. I expected this,” the left-handed batter added.

Earlier, Sanju Samson praised his opening partner Abhishek Sharma, describing their partnership as effortless and balanced. He highlighted their combination as “fire and fire”, with both taking turns leading the attack.

Samson noted the natural Kerala-Punjabi friendship that underpins their understanding. Samson admired Sharma’s bravery and composure, saying he enjoys both their on-field and off-field camaraderie.

“We are not ice and fire, we are fire and fire. Sometimes he fires, sometimes I do. We have that kind of combination going. We have done this since 2024; we have a Kerala-Punjabi friendship in the middle. Everything comes pretty naturally to us, so we do not complicate it. He asks me, ‘How is the ball coming?’ I tell him that the ball is coming normally, and hit it for a six. It is really simple with him. Abhishek is very brave and collected. I love his character. I really love the partnership with him on and off the field,” Sanju Samson said at the India Today Conclave.

Canada’s Lee misses two-footer to lose LIV event to DeChambeau in playoff

Published

on

SINGAPORE — Bryson DeChambeau hit his drive into the water and still won the playoff with a par Sunday at LIV Golf Singapore when Richard T. Lee of Canada missed a two-foot putt.

DeChambeau birdied the par-5 18th for a 5-under 66. Lee birdied four of his last six holes for a 66. They finished on 14-under 274 at Sentosa Golf Club.

Lee Westwood closed with a 70 and finished third, his best finish in LIV.

Lee was trying to become the first wild card — players not affiliated with a team — to win in the LIV Golf League. It looked certain the playoff would go another hole when Lee had a two-footer for par. He jabbed at it with a quick stroke and it spun out hard off the left lip.

“It was a short putt and I wanted to just hit it hard, and I hit it a little too hard,” Lee said. “I think the adrenaline was pumping a little bit.”

The 35-year-old Lee picked up $2,250,000 for his runner-up finish, the largest check of his career. He earned his spot in the Saudi-funded league by winning the LIV Promotions event.

DeChambeau put his hands over his head in disbelief when Lee missed the playoff putt. He said it reminded him of John Daly having a 15-foot birdie putt to beat Tiger Woods in a World Golf Championships playoff in 2005, only to three-putt by missing a three-foot par putt.

“To actually see that happen in front of you, for you to be the positive receiving side of it, it’s just a weird feeling,” DeChambeau said. “But it’s a win and something I’ll appreciate for the rest of my life. Even if I lost today, I was still looking pretty good at my game. I was excited the way I was striking it coming in the last couple days.”

It was DeChambeau’s first victory over 72 holes since he won the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 in 2024, and it was his fourth title on LIV Golf.

Jon Rahm finished fifth, ending a stretch of five tournaments he won or was runner-up.

The 4 Aces captained by Dustin Johnson won the team competition for the second straight week.

Guard play will be key for Vanderbilt, Arkansas in SEC final

Published

on

Syndication: The TennesseanVanderbilt guard Duke Miles (2) starts a fast break against Florida during their semifinal game of the 2026 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., Saturday, March 14, 2026.

NASHVILLE — No. 22 Vanderbilt will try to win its first Southeastern Conference tournament championship since 2012 when it meets 17th-ranked Arkansas on Sunday.

The Commodores (26-7), playing two miles from their campus, routed fourth-ranked Florida (the tournament’s top seed) by a 91-74 score on Saturday, snapping the Gators’ 12-game winning streak.

“Proud of the guys,” Vanderbilt coach Mark Byington said afterward. “Not really much celebrating. It’s on to Sunday, and that’s what we started this tournament for, is to play for a trophy on Sunday, and that’s what we have a chance to do tomorrow.”

Vanderbilt enters on a four-game winning streak, none of those wins coming on its campus.

Arkansas (25-8) has also won four straight, surviving in a 93-90 overtime win over Ole Miss to get here.

It’ll be the third game in three days for both teams, and Arkansas coach John Calipari was particularly perturbed about tournament scheduling on Friday evening.

After beating Oklahoma in a game that ended around 11:30 p.m. Central on Friday, Calipari lamented a Sunday tip-off that comes less than 19 hours after Arkansas finished off the Rebels.

Vanderbilt knows something about overcoming difficult circumstances lately.

The Commodores struggle against teams with size and rebounding, but in their last three games have knocked off the nation’s top offensive rebounding team in Tennessee (twice) and then clocked the Gators, who rank second.

Vanderbilt was beaten on the glass by Tennessee by counts of 40-31 and 46-34, and then 38-23 by Florida.

But neither team could come close to matching Vanderbilt’s guard play of Tyler Tanner (19.2 ppg, 5.2 apg, 2.4 spg) and Duke Miles (16.5 ppg, 4.2 apg, 2.6 spg).

The two have been a wrecking crew most of the season through their quickness and play-making ability. Tanner was a first-team All-SEC pick and Miles scored 30 in the win Friday over Tennessee.

Arkansas also has elite guards, led by SEC Player of the Year Darius Acuff Jr. (22.7 ppg, 6.5 apg) and Meleek Thomas (15.6 ppg). Acuff scored 24 and dished out seven assists on Saturday and Thomas added 29 and five.

Thomas played all 45 minutes on Saturday, just as he did in an 88-84 win over Missouri when Acuff was out with injury.

“There is no one that would say to Meleek anything that would believe him to believe he’s not as good as good as any player in the country,” Calipari said after Saturday. “He has otherworldly — otherworldly, now — confidence. Like, he could run for president one day. … I’ve gotta let him do some crazy stuff. I get on him but he’ll look at me like, ‘You’re nuts. You don’t have any idea how good I am.’ And I love that.”

The Razorbacks handed Vanderbilt its most lopsided loss of the season with a 93-68 walloping in Fayetteville on Jan. 20.

Arkansas is best in the country at avoiding turnovers (12.2%), per KenPom.

The 6-foot-3 Acuff and 6-5 Thomas also have the height advantage, respectively, on Tanner (6-0) and Miles (6-2), who had just 11 and five points, respectively, in the first game.

Inter held meeting with referees’ team after controversial Atalanta draw

Published

on

Serie A league leaders Inter felt undone in their 1-1 draw against Atalanta, as La Dea were handed a controversial goal and the Nerazzurri were also denied a clear penalty late in the tie.

The scenes were rather ugly towards the conclusion of the game, as Cristian Chivu was also sent off for dissent.

La Gazzetta dello Sport – relayed by Calciomercato, report that Inter CEO Beppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio spoke to the refereeing team after the tie. The conversation has been described as rather polite.

This is the second time Inter had complained to the refs, with the first instance coming in the loss to Napoli earlier in the campaign. Unlike that point, Inter went into a media blackout and no one from the club came forward to make statements.

After the Napoli controversy, Marotta had questioned the calls. This time, the league leaders remainded silent and let that do the talking.

“That’s BIG V impact” – Fans react as BTS’ Taehyung hits 3M TikTok followers in under 48 hours without posts or verification

Published

on

On March 14, X account, TheePopCore reported that BTS’ Taehyung had crossed three million followers on TikTok. The milestone arrived in less than 48 hours after the account appeared online. What makes the moment unusual is the lack of activity on the page, which has the username @tete_kimv.

There are no uploads, no verification badge, and no official confirmation attached to the profile as of now. Even so, curiosity spread rapidly among admirers. As a result, the follower count continued rising at an impressive pace.

“That’s BIG V impact,” an X user commented.

Fans are hailing Taehyung’s impact.

Others are hailing him as a “king.”

We call him King of this nation🤴

This isn’t easy but he’s is Kim taehyung. King behaviour

More about BTS’ Taehyung’s alleged TikTok account

The TikTok profile, @tete_kimv, first surfaced on March 13. Soon after fans discovered the page, the numbers began climbing almost instantly. Within only a few hours, the account had already attracted more than 434,000 followers. Interest kept building throughout the evening. Soon, the total had already crossed one million followers. The sudden growth, therefore, turned the quiet launch into a widely discussed topic across fan communities.

Early interactions around the account also offered an important hint. j-hope and Jungkook appeared among the first followers. At that point, they remained the only BTS members actively present on TikTok. Their connection to the new page quickly caught attention. Fans noticed the unfamiliar username in their following list. Naturally, speculation began spreading online. Many observers soon concluded that the account likely belonged to Taehyung.

The discovery itself unfolded through careful observation. On March 12, one day before the profile appeared, Jungkook had quietly adjusted his TikTok following list. After that change, only Hobi and the official BTS account remained visible. When fans checked the list again the following day, a new profile had suddenly appeared. That small update sparked immediate discussion. ARMY members compared details and timing. The connection became clear to many fans within minutes.

Meanwhile, the timing of the account has also sparked excitement about possible content. In a recent interview with GQ, V and Jungkook spoke about the idea of trying TikTok challenges together after a fan suggested it. For now, fans continue watching the page closely in anticipation of the first post.

In other news, Kim Tae-hyung remained a major talking point during Paris Fashion Week even without attending Celine’s Celine Hiver 2026 show on March 7. The brand’s official X account shared a photo taken by him with hashtags linked to the event, which quickly drew attention online.
