Video: Inter catch lucky break as Liverpool goal disallowed by VAR

MILAN, ITALY – DECEMBER 09: Referee Felix Zwayer, consults the VAR screen before declaring the goal scored by Ibrahima Konate of Liverpool (not pictured) disallowed for a handball during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 League Phase MD6 match between FC Internazionale Milano and Liverpool FC at Stadio San Siro on December 09, 2025 in Milan, Italy. Inter were fortunate not to be behind at the half-time interval after a lengthy VAR intervention ruled out a goal for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.
After a corner kick was floated in the box, both Virgin Van Dijk and Hugo Ekitike went for the header, bouncing off of the Dutchman’s head and onto his teammate’s arm, and onto Konate who headed the ball past Yann Sommer.
It took the VAR a long time to come to a decision and the referee was eventually called over to the screen to make an on-field review.

A handball is a handball, and UEFA’s Champions League rules are particularly strict on the matter, but Liverpool will feel hard done by by the decision.
