West Ham Eyeing Move for Ex-Tottenham Star Eric Dier
West Ham are showing interest in signing AS Monaco defender Eric Dier, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The London Stadium side are reportedly considering a move for the former Tottenham star, who has been offered to West Ham amid his limited playing time in Ligue 1 this season.
While talks are not yet at an advanced stage, West Ham could look to reunite manager Nuno Espirito Santo with Dier following their time together at Spurs during the 2021/22 season.
Dier, who joined Monaco from Bayern Munich last summer, is under contract with the Monegasque club until June 2028.
West Ham Keen on Signing Eric Dier
According to Plettenberg, Dier has been offered to West Ham as a potential defensive addition to Espirito Santo’s squad in January.
As ExWHUEmployee initially reported, Espirito Santo is particularly keen on a London Stadium reunion with Dier and sees the 31-year-old as a ‘leader’ and a great addition to his struggling squad.
Dier spent almost a decade with Tottenham before initially departing on loan to Bayern in January 2024, where he became the German champion last season.
The ‘sensational’ England international has only made nine appearances for Monaco across all competitions this season, scoring two goals, and was forced to miss almost two months due to two separate injuries.
Dier made his return to Monaco’s squad in mid-December but remained on the bench for the next two league games before starting in the Coupe de France last weekend.
West Ham Need Defensive Reinforcements
After bolstering their frontline with the arrivals of Pablo and Taty Castellanos, West Ham need to focus on shoring up their defence this month.
The Hammers have conceded more goals (43) than any other Premier League side this season and have gone 10 games without a win, taking just four points from a possible 30.
While they managed to halt their dismal run with a 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers in the FA Cup last weekend, West Ham need to improve their league form soon if they want to avoid a return to the Championship after 14 years.
Lucas Paqueta Wants to Leave in January
West Ham have turned down a €40m offer from Flamengo for midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who wants to leave the club in January.
According to GIVEMESPORT sources, the Brazilian international revealed his desire to return to his boyhood club after three-and-a-half years at the London Stadium, with another bid from Flamengo not discounted in the coming days.
