West Ham in Advanced Negotiations to Sign Keiber Lamadrid
West Ham United are close to adding a South American midfielder into their ranks, according to reports from across the Atlantic Ocean – with Keiber Lamadrid being ‘advanced’ for a move to the London Stadium.
West Ham managed their first win in over two months on Saturday, beating London rivals Tottenham Hotspur away from home, and it’s somewhat sparked hope in their camp.
However, they still have a mountain to climb and that means new signings should be brought in. Nuno Espirito Santo has already added two strikers but a South American midfielder could be added in the form of Venezuelan star Keiber Lamadrid.
Report: West Ham ‘In Advanced Talks’ for Keiber Lamadrid
The report by Venezuelan journalist Elias Lopez, who writes for national paper El Mundo un Balon, states that youngster Keiber Lamadrid is in advanced negotiations to sign for the Hammers in the Premier League.
The Venezuelan midfielder would arrive in east London from Deportivo La Guaira, based in the country’s capital, Caracas.
Lamadrid, who has one cap for Venezuela at the age of 22, had a solid campaign for his club last season, recording eight goals and six assists in 36 games for Deportivo.
His overall record for the club stands at 14 goals and seven assists from the left wing in 103 games, and that saw him rewarded with a call-up to the Venezuela national squad back in November, featuring off the bench in a 2-0 loss to Canada.
As an unfamiliar name, it does seem quite rogue for Nuno Espírito Santo to sign Lamadrid, especially on loan. It infers that, alongside Crysencio Summerville, he will be their left-wing option to secure Premier League survival.
The Hammers are five points adrift of safety in the league table, and will be relying on incomings to boost them out of the traps – though it remains to be seen just what impact Lamadrid will have.
West Ham Need More Experience than Lamadrid
It’s all well and good bringing Lamadrid in, but West Ham can’t afford to lose anyone else.
Lucas Paqueta has been long linked with a move away from the London Stadium, and earlier this week, he was reported to have agreed personal terms with Flamengo, with West Ham now considering his exit.
If Paqueta does leave, and Lamadrid is his replacement, it likely won’t sit well with Irons fans, getting rid of their most experienced creative star for an unknown, who has just one game for a nation who didn’t even qualify for the World Cup.
