Nathan Ake Rejects January West Ham Move, Open to Man City Exit

West Ham United are casting their eye over new managers as they desperately try to preserve their Premier League status.

A 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night means that the Hammers only have 14 points from 21 games so far this term with a seven-point gap on 17th-place Forest in the table.

It means that the East London side have little margin for error if they are to avoid a catastrophic relegation to the EFL Championship.

Nuno Espirito Santo is under increasing pressure, GIVEMESPORT understands, and could be dismissed before too long as the West Ham hierarchy look to do one more roll of the dice in order to avoid the drop. If they’e going to make a change, one manager must be appealing.

West Ham could look to appoint Michael Carrick as a replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo if the Portuguese boss is sacked.

Carrick, described as ‘insanely talented’ by Middlesbrough star Lukas Engel, is currently out of work having been sacked as Boro boss at the end of last season.

West Ham have previously sounded the Manchester United legend out about the job, although nothing ever came from it.

Now the 44-year-old is being considered once more should Nuno’s time at the club come to an end, with West Ham desperate to avoid relegation.

Carrick Would Excite West Ham Fans

Michael Carrick

A manager who came through the ranks with West Ham would undoubtedly appeal to supporters as they look to have one last crack at staying in the Premier League.

One name that is being considered is former Irons boss Slaven Bilic, and GMS understands that he would be ready to answer an emergency call from the club to take over if a mid-season change was made.

However, Carrick would be a more forward-thinking appointment. Renowned for his attack-minded, possession-based style of play with Middlesbrough, the Man United legend would get his team playing “The West Ham Way” and would ensure that they would go out to try and win games.

Picking up three points regularly is essential if West Ham want to avoid the drop and Carrick could be the ideal man to come in and replace Nuno. A man for the short and long term, Carrick could be the best person to lead the Hammers next term, regardless of what league they find themselves in.
