West Ham United are now fiercely competing to sign an “extraordinary” new forward, joining Celtic and a number of European clubs in the race for his signature.

West Ham keen on another new forward after Lamadrid

West Ham have been busy in the January transfer window, bringing in Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos, but they have no plans to stop there, and Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed they are close to signing another new winger.

Not only are the Hammers looking to make a number of new additions in attack, but they also have some exciting options already at the club, with Callum Wilson proving his worth by scoring the winning goal in the 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

According to a report from Spain, West Ham remain keen on strengthening their wide options, and they are now fiercely competing with the likes of Celtic, Ajax and Marseille for the signature of Girona winger Yaser Asprilla.

The La Liga side value Asprilla at around €35m (£31m), meaning a loan deal may be the smarter option, with the Hammers looking to bolster their forward line with a player who possesses speed and flair.

With the forward eager to keep his place in the Colombia team ahead of the World Cup, his entourage is looking for a move to a club where more consistent game time is guaranteed, having failed to live up to expectations at Girona this season.

Former coach Wilberth Perea is a keen admirer of the 22-year-old, saying: “One of Yaser’s main characteristics is that he has always been a very daring player.

“He has a lot of personality and a huge capacity to do extraordinary things.”

Perea also reveals the 11-time Colombia international modelled his game on South American legend Ronaldinho, which suggests the Hammers could be signing a skilful player with plenty of flair.

The Hammers are considering a move for a “special player”.

Although the former Watford man has no experience in the Premier League, he does have some experience in England, chipping in with six goals and seven assists for the Hornets during the 2023-24 Championship campaign.

Asprilla hasn’t exactly impressed at Girona, amassing just four goals and two assists in 50 appearances, so he would be a risky signing for West Ham, but it could be a gamble worth taking, with Nuno‘s side in need of some inspiration from somewhere to avoid the drop.
