Why Khamzat Chimaev Kept Shoving Ian Garry After Arman Tsarukyan's UFC Win

Khamzat Chimaev has explained why he shoved Ian Garry backstage after Arman Tsarukyan’s dominant win over Dan Hooker at the UFC Fight Night which took place on Saturday, the 22nd of November in Qatar.

Chimaev has trained for a long time with Tsarukyan, and helped corner the Armenian fighter for the headline bout. Though Hooker has great experience in high-pressure situations, that mattered little against the surging lightweight, who romped to a second-round submission win with relative ease, and then campaigned for a long-awaited shot at Ilia Topuria‘s championship.

However, an incident behind-the-scenes threatened to overshadow Tsarukyan’s work. And it’s all because of a simmering rivalry with Garry, who defeated Belal Muhammad in the co-main event.

However, Garry can be heard congratulating Chimaev, before embracing him. Chimaev then seemed to give Garry a light shove on his back. When Garry returned to Chimaev, UFC officials got between them. More words were said, and Chimaev then shoved Garry even harder from the front.

Through The MacLife, Chimaev gave his side of the story. He said Garry punched him on the back.

The Garry incident was not the only thing Chimaev reacted to, as he also gave Tsarukyan a glowing review.

“His performance was crazy — like a world champion. I knew it was going to be a finish but I wanted to wait to say that. Arman is the best. He’s the No.1. I believe this guy is one of the best fighters in the world. He has to fight for the belt.”
