Wilfried Nancy Must Axe Arne Engels After Celtic vs Hearts
Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy recently took charge of his first game with the club, and it was a disappointing result and performance as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Hearts.
Nancy is still working out his best side after just a few days of training before his opening game as manager of the club. The former Columbus Crew manager was appointed last week, replacing Martin O’Neill, who did an excellent job in interim charge of the Glasgow giants.
Against Hearts, a host of players were criticised for their performance. Daizen Maeda was one who was slammed after a ‘rotten’ display, but he certainly wasn’t the only one to produce a disappointing display. The loss was a possible blow in the Scottish Premiership title race, and it will be interesting to see if Nancy decides to make some changes for their next game.
Wilfried Nancy Must Drop Arne Engels for Celtic
Nancy might have to make some tough decisions during his first few weeks at the club as he aims to steer Celtic in the right direction. Arne Engels is one player who didn’t cover himself in any glory against Hearts, in what was likely an audition for many players, with it being Nancy’s first game in charge.
If Nancy is looking to mix things up ahead of their game against Roma, then Engels could be one to be axed from the side. Engels’ performance was described as ‘frustrating’ by The Scotsman against Hearts, and the Belgian midfielder was given a 4/10 rating for his display.
It wasn’t a strong audition from Engels in Nancy’s first match, and he could be one to make way from the starting XI for the game during the week.
Nancy Had Some Decisions to Make at Celtic
Celtic currently sit three points behind Hearts in the league table, but there’s no doubt it’s been a disappointing season so far. Nancy will likely want to mix things up in order to stamp his authority at Parkhead, and he will likely be looking to make some tough decisions in order to do so.
The game against Roma in the Europa League will be one of their toughest tests so far, but it’s also an opportunity for Nancy to try out a different selection of players. The Bhoys have a cup final ahead at the weekend against St Mirren, so it’s set to be a huge week for the club.
