Uber One adds family sharing just in time for the holidays
Uber One members can now share their subscription benefits with their family at no extra charge, just in time for the busy holiday travel season. Uber is rolling this out alongside a wave of seasonal perks, including complimentary ride upgrades and exclusive deals.
Starting now, existing Uber One members can add one additional adult to their account, and they can also include an unlimited number of teens. The best part is that this feature doesn’t cost the primary member anything extra. Everyone added to the plan gets access to the core Uber One perks, including the $0 Delivery Fee on eligible Uber Eats orders. Also, those family members will be able to earn their own Uber One credits when they book rides.
If you’d like to activate this for your household, setting it up is pretty straightforward. You just need to navigate to the Uber One page in the Account tab of the app to manage your membership and add family members or teens. However, not every membership type qualifies for this new feature.
If you’re currently on a Preview plan, a Student Plan, or using a free or extended trial, you won’t be able to use Family Sharing yet. Uber for Business or Government accounts are also excluded from this benefit.
Beyond sharing the savings, Uber is adding to the deal on the ride side of the service by offering prioritized complimentary upgrades. This means when you book a standard ride, you might automatically get bumped up to a more premium vehicle if one is available.
You could request a basic UberX and find yourself riding in an Uber Comfort or even an Uber Black, all at no extra cost. Similarly, if you request an Uber Comfort, you could get upgraded to a high-end Uber Black car. Uber is making this even better by planning to upgrade over one million member rides between December 2 and December 31, so you have a solid chance of riding in style all month long.
The holiday season also brings with it a stack of time-sensitive discounts that Uber One members can cash in on immediately. For those traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday, Uber is offering 10 percent off Uber Black rides to and from select airports. Keep in mind that this discount is capped at $14 and is only good for one ride per rider between November 24 and November 27.
The deals extend heavily into the Uber Eats side of the app, covering groceries and retail shopping. Members get early access to some serious Black Friday savings. You can get $25 off an Uber Eats order of $75 or more from major retailers like Best Buy, The Home Depot, DSW, and Lowe’s. This deal also includes the $0 Delivery Fee and expires on November 27.
For those last-minute Thanksgiving needs, Uber is also offering 30 percent off select grocery items like pies, dairy products, and eggs through November 26. If you need to pick up gifts, you can also get 15 percent off Uber gift card purchases made in the app, though this offer is limited to two redemptions per person and ends on December 1st.
You should always look for the Uber One icon to make sure the store or ride is eligible for the benefits before placing your order. This is coming at no additional cost, so if you already have Uber One, you are good to go.
