WhatsUp Gold, a network monitoring solution built by Progress Software, carried numerous critical and high-severity vulnerabilities, which placed its users at great risk of different cyberattacks. The flaws were recently addressed, and the company urged the users to apply the fixes immediately.
Progress recently published a new security advisory in which it warned WhatsUp Gold users of the flaws and announced the release of the patch.
The advisory, however, does not discuss what the flaws are or how they might have been abused.
In total, there were six vulnerabilities, two of which are rated critical – 9.8/10.
Progress Software said that the first fixed version is 24.0.1:

“The WhatsUp Gold team has identified six vulnerabilities that exist in versions below 24.0.1,” the advisory reads. “We are reaching out to all WhatsUp Gold customers to upgrade their environment as soon as possible to version 24.0.1, released on Friday, September 20. If you are running a version older than 24.0.1 and you do not upgrade, your environment will remain vulnerable.”
WhatsUp Gold is a network monitoring software designed to provide comprehensive visibility into an organization’s IT infrastructure. It enables users to monitor devices, applications, servers, and network traffic in real time, helping to quickly identify and resolve performance issues.
To install the latest version, visit Progress’ product list page, download the latest version, and run it on your WhatsUp Gold server. After that, just follow the prompts. Since there are no details about the flaws, we don’t know if they have been abused in the wild already.

If you love classic Japanese RPGs like I do, then Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake is probably one of your most anticipated games of the year. If it isn’t, it should be.
I had a chance to play a short demo of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake when I was at Gamescom last month. I hold the original in high regard, considering the best of the 8-bit generation of RPGs. That was thanks to the game’s large world, customizable vocation system, and strong core of JRPG fundamentals.
All of that is in this remake, and the new HD-2D visuals make Dragon Quest III an incredible looker. It still has that classic, pixelated style, but the new graphics and lightning show off a more vibrant world.
A classic then and forever
After my demo, I had a chance to ask Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii about Dragon Quest III’s popularity. I have to admit, it’s not too often that I get starstruck when doing interviews, but Horii is pretty much the father of all JRPGs. His contributions to gaming are enormous. So it was a treat to hear him talk about this game’s legacy.

“Back when I made Dragon Quest 1, 2, and 3, Dragon Quest 3 was actually a big twist. It turned everything on its head,” Horii told me. “I think a lot of people still remember that shock and drama. Another reason is a lot of people played Dragon Quest III when they were kids. You always look back fondly on stuff that you played when you were young, that you shared with your friends. I do think that’s why it’s stayed in the hearts of a lot of our players.”

Monster mash
The HD-2D Remake is not just a one-to-one remake. It includes new features and expanded story content. I found the new character class, the Monster Wrangler, the most exciting. The original Dragon Quest III featured the vocation system, which lets characters switch between multiple archetypes, like Gladiator or Mage.
The Monster Wrangler is an entirely new vocation for the HD-2D Remake. It lets players use abilities from enemies in battle. I asked the game’s producer, Masaaki Hayakawa, if Monster Wrangler took inspiration from the monster-recruiting entries in the series, like Dragon Quest V.

“Of course we did take inspiration from V,” Hayakawa told me. “But there was a whole process we went through to end up with this new vocation. One of the things we’re attributing to it is that the world map, the field area here, is much bigger in this remake. There’s a much bigger area for players to explore. We wanted to add something else for players to do, add some new gameplay to this area.”
Those are some nice sprites.
Speaking of monsters, there is another way that they add to new content in the remake.
“Another thing we had in the back of our minds, in the original there was an arena where you could bet on monsters fighting,” Hayakawa said. “That wasn’t something we could include in this remake, partly because of ratings and things like that. It just wasn’t the content we were looking for. So we were thinking, what could we add to the game to take that place and be something new and positive instead? That’s when we came up with the monster arena that we have in this version you see today. Then we thought, how could we combine the new gameplay that we wanted to add to the world map with this monster arena? That’s when we came up with the idea of the monster wrangler vocation. Then you could go out and capture monsters and take them to the monster arena. Everything is connected in this nice flow.”

HD 2D is for me
The new features are great. And along with the incredible new visuals and the preservation of Dragon Quest III’s classic vibe, this HD-2D Remake is shaping up to become a special treat for classic JRPG fans like me.
And it’s just the start, since Dragon Quest I and II will get the same treatment. Frankly, I hope that they don’t stop there.

Muted Monday: Wall Street is having a relatively quiet session to wrap up a volatile, yet positive September and a strong third quarter. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell spoke at the National Association for Business Economics conference in Nashville and fielded questions about his monetary policy outlook. Less than two weeks after the central bank kicked off its rate-cutting cycle by a half-percentage point, Powell indicated additional reductions would be ahead if the “economy evolves broadly as expected.” But, he cautioned, the Fed is “not on any preset course.” He later added that “this is not a committee that feels like it’s in a hurry to cut rates.” This last line caused the S & P 500 to trade at its lows of the day, as market probabilities for the Fed’s November meeting shifted to a traditional quarter-point cut from another 50 basis point move, according to the CME Group’s FedWatch tool . Ultimately, the Fed’s next move will depend on how the data evolves. Don’t overlook Disney : Shares of Club name Disney have quietly put together a solid September, up about 6% in the month. This comes after the stock spent most of August trading in the mid-$80s. Shares broke down on Aug. 7, falling more than 4% to $85.96 after a disappointing reaction to a good quarter . The entertainment giant beat estimates on revenue and delivered a sizeable bottom-line beat, thanks in part to its first profitable quarter from its streaming business. Nevertheless, the stock sold off on concerns about a moderation in spending at its theme parks . Since the quarter, the stock has rallied as the market has become more comfortable with Disney’s outlook, expecting that sluggish trends for its experiences business could reverse if multiple Fed rate cuts take some pressure off the consumer. Indeed, an improving macroeconomic outlook — coupled with emerging profitability at streaming — was the basis of Seaport Research Partner’s upgrade of Disney on Monday. The analysts now rate the stock a buy, up from neutral, with a price target of $108 a share. “While we have tangibly soft Parks data, it is likely temporary, and emergent DTC profitability is getting the benefit of the doubt, with recent price increases and paid sharing announcements possibly supporting further [average revenue per user] and sub growth,” Seaport told clients. Disney’s market valuation is heavily tied to the health of its experiences business, so we agree that an improving economic outlook should help boost the stock. The question is how long this normalization from a post-pandemic boom will last? In the meantime, we are encouraged by the progress Disney has made to make its streaming unit profitable and its recent box office success. Energy woes : The S & P 500 energy sector is on pace to finish the third quarter as the only sector in the red, down more than 3%. For the year, the energy sector is up about 5%, easily the worst-performing group. There have been a few winners in the oil-and-gas group, but for the most part, the independent exploration-and-production companies have been a big disappointment. Fortunately, we’ve only had one small energy position in Coterra Energy , a disciplined driller that balances oil and natural gas production based on commodity prices. At 2.15% of Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust, our energy exposure is less than the 3.5% energy weighting of the S & P 500, as of Aug. 30, and we have correctly held off from averaging down since our last buy in late May at $27.50. But natural gas is now finally starting to move — tracking for its best month since July 2022 and trading at its highest levels since late June, when Coterra traded around just below $27 per share. Against that backdrop, we see value in Coterra shares trading at almost $24 with a 3.5% dividend yield and are debating adding to our position. Up next: Before the open Tuesday we’ll see earnings from payroll processor Paychex and spice maker McCormick . On the economic data side, there is the so-called JOLTS report, which measures job openings and serves as a good measure of tightness in the labor market. Google’s first leak of the fall is here, with new renders of its upcoming Pixel 9A posted online for the world to see. As with the Pixel 8A leak earlier this year, Android Headlines has yet again acquired images of Google’s next budget A-series release, this time by way of OnLeaks, which was responsiblefor spoiling the recent Pixel 9 lineup.
The big change coming on the Pixel 9A, according to the leak, is that it won’t feature Google’s now-signature visor look for its camera housing. Instead, it seems like there are two cameras in a pill-shaped module that sits almost flush with the rear of the phone. A camera flash is set to the right, making it look like the rear of an iPhone 7 Plus but magnified. The rest of the body looks similar to other Pixel 9 devices — and current iPhones — with thin-looking bezels around the screen.
Android Headlines notes the 9A might ship with Android 15, and it could be the last Google device to include a Samsung-based Tensor chip, with Google moving on to using TSMC for future processors in 2025. Google usually releases its A-series phones in the springtime, typically during Google I/O, so it might be a while before we get all the details.
