Does any one know what is the name of the application that records the camera sexurity sytems locally ?

And if it can be viewed online ?

I am looking for something like plex but for viewing and recording the camera systems

Somebody on the internet said that first you start a small server and you increase and increase and increase you equipment till you reach a rack server

In the UK, my unraid server costs me ÂŁ4~ÂŁ8 a month to run in electricity. This is on top of the hardware acquisition. Compared to the Hetzner server I was paying monthly for, its about 2 years for my hardware to break even compared to just paying for hardware running somewhere else. I strongly debated sticking with hetzner, since hardware ages fast and unsure how long it will be before due an upgrade.. but I did it anyway

We could become good friends! I agree with bringing everything in-house as much as possible. I have spent the last nearly 30 years building server rooms and managing business networks only to migrate them all to the cloud and now, turning around again, and migrating alot of services back to on-premise. It’s a wild world we live in. I was a huge ubnt fan until they went off the rails a few years ago and I switched to TP Link for wireless and never looked back. I do recommend getting the hardware controller. What security camera system doesn’t require the internet? I used to own a burglar and fire alarm company as well and we installed commercial systems such as pelco, everfocus, etc. I tried ubnt’s cameras and nvr and it required the internet to even login to the nvr which was local. That was insane and I let them have it. I have lorex currently along with a few ring cameras, but i miss the days of having coax and a dvr! Qnap has a surveillance app and I love qnap. I have looked at Exacvision (spelling?) but they were pretty pricey for home stuff. I want a local, self-sufficient cctv system that does not require the internet. Also, you mentioned in another video that plex won’t work correctly without internet. This is insane as well. I have over 2000 dvd’s that I want to store locally so I’m researching a solution that can be our go-to during storms and outages. Great videos! Also, software raids are not ideal. I always stick with hardware raids
much more resilient and capable.

The hell I need home server for? I ask as an IT professional. Is 8 hours a day in company not enough for this bs? Are modern people nolives with their faces glued to pc monitors all day long? Or they just want to spend money on new hardware to replace old one, while at the same time brag about how changing equpment on a yearly basis is bad for The Environment?
A compulsive buying disorder is strong with this one. Fk my data. If I lose it lose it. I will die one day, so what few GB of data mean in that case? xD All I need is good memory and by that I mean my own memory. I don't have home server, home network or even a smartphone. I don't need it like 99% of the people. Everything was better before 2000's kicked in. People are just mindlessly buying everything.

You are discussing local storage vs cloud storage and cloud storage as a backup tool. But you don’t mention the possibility to automatically synchronize these . I do that for my critical data ( encrypted backups etc) . Having too many servers and locations to store data has been a nightmare for me during the 35 years I’m into computers. I’m sure that applies for many other people too. I have my own business server ( a pc with Linux virtual machine) in the office for bookkeeping and automation ( backed up with google drive) , use iCloud with all of my macs since 15 years, I have a dedicated vultr server that runs some special applications ( personal cloud and some dedicated software) and I have everything connected with zerotier, so I can connect safely to every part of my equipment as if I was sitting next to it from everywhere in the world. I don’t use any local nas for critical data since I’ve seen them crash before, hence the cloud synchronization. I don’t store media though.. It took me a while to get there but I’m pretty happy now with my setup

What if I told you that you might already have a small server sitting in a drawer at your own house right now? If you have an Android phone you don't use you can use that as a very lightweight server. You just need an android app called Servers Ultimate or a WebDAV app and that can make the phone into a tiny server. Just know it's not going to have the power of.minipc. But it's possible to use that android device as micro NAS or a Media Streaming device via DLNA etc…

  22. @tigerscott2966

    October 17, 2024 at 9:37 pm

Server software has gotten easier to use.

I've encouraged people for years to at least

Use an old hard drive to keep their files

Backed up. Sadly, most of them have

    Ticktoked out of reality.

As a longtime Linux user I have a simple philosophy for why to have a home server: never rent what you can own.

  25. @avonzo

This is exactly what the technology is designed for. Not to kill the bandwidth trying to get to the main server in next continent for everything! Local caches/services like this and the edge technologies those many can share is the way to go! Well done! I'm going to try a few things too now with your inspiration!!!

I'd love to hear what kind of setup you would suggest for those living in places where electricity can be quite expensive, would you use an ARM-based device?

  30. @Makenshii

    October 17, 2024 at 9:37 pm

Is it possible to have a NAS set up for media streaming but also torrents?

  31. @orsivan5731

    October 17, 2024 at 9:37 pm

Sorry but I'm not sold on any of these points. For 90%+ of people none of these options bring much value, especially if they're not tech savvy.
Maybe replacing google cloud with a NAS for file backup can be nice, although it's not gonna be cheaper and will require some maintenance.
You don't need a private VPN on public wifi when using TLS encrypted sites, which is basically every site today.

  32. @AverageSensei

    October 17, 2024 at 9:37 pm

You drive a hard bargain, but Google can have my data ifc tbh 😭

  33. @charlesahweyevu

    October 17, 2024 at 9:37 pm

I use one drive. It's convenient. The sync is much better than Google drive for me. Google gets on my nerves with sync issues. I like being able to seamlessly access and transition through files on my desktop, phone, and tablet like it's nothing.

  34. @charlesahweyevu

    October 17, 2024 at 9:37 pm

I'm interested in having my own local internet. So with the media streaming. You have to go through the trouble of downloading every piece of media and store it? Even though I prefer streaming off stremio. I guess when the internet goes out. I can still access my stuffs.

  35. @somguy5035

    October 17, 2024 at 9:37 pm

    Some good points. Subbed

  36. @tumultoustortellini

    October 17, 2024 at 9:37 pm

I've been meaning to get a sata drive for my laptop for a while. Then, using some software to turn that into a network that I can connect to my phone, so I don't have to transfer music and books by the wire anymore. I heard somewhere else about downloading all of wikipedia and wikihow and having that in my backpocket as well. I keep seeing incentives like this video. Maybe soon, it'll be a reality.

  37. @cybergodkek6618

    October 17, 2024 at 9:37 pm

    If the "internet" stops "working".
We have a bigger problem then having a minecart server running…
    Tech fags are retarded.

I Made The World's Smallest Server Rack - With UPS and SSD Storage

Having your own home server rack or homelab is really useful, but you have to have a relatively large space to set it up, it generates a lot of heat and can be pretty noisy. So that’s why I built this, the world’s smallest server rack that fits right in on my desk alongside a drink or cup of coffee. In this video, I’ll show you how I made it.
