Arm CPUs are taking over. Apple Silicon showed us that desktop computers need not be power hogs – Why haven’t AMD, Intel, and Nvidia done the same, and would you want it?

You could just save people time and tell them to learn about Agenda 2030 and then realize videos like this make it all happen (it's called compartmentalization) because consumerist bug men want to state that such changes are inevitable.

Wow, so many comments about hanging on to inefficient technology. What happened to smaller better faster? Arm can't happen fast enough, present pc power consumption is insanely bad. If PCs don't change over to arm soon, I'm afraid I'm going to have to bail. I need an efficient pc, not a toaster.

I wouldn't mind if our GPU, RAM, and CPU were all soldered together into a single unit…So long as the unit itself can be socketed and replaced. If it's ARM-based, we might see more competition, which will bring prices down and give consumers options. It's just that, instead of replacing your CPU, RAM, and GPU individually, it's a single unit that you need to replace — kind of like how sound cards used to be their own thing, but they're now baked into the motherboard.

I don't think this is the direction that the industry is going in…But I think there's a way to do this that doesn't screw over enthusiasts entirely, and still allows us to upgrade our machines, use our own towers, and have pluggable extensions for our motherboards.

I don't think it's inevitable because there are too many big players that would prefer to have swappable components. The users just looking for convenience might be a large part of the market, but they're already catered to with phones and game consoles, which who cares if those become full systems on a chip? I doubt components are going anywhere.

The smartphone industry is a mess. Electro waste is sky high, consumers are being over-charged at every turn and open source / software freedom and user privacy is at an all time low. The technology world of 2024 is a late stage capitalist dystopian nightmare. Much of this has spilt out into the tablet and laptop markets.

The PC industry however has remained relatively untouched. I hope it stays that way. 😟

So many people are mad their PCs which fast approach electric kettle kind of power are going to be eventually obsolete.

  11. @MultiHunterOne

    October 29, 2024 at 4:27 pm

Hold on, just because we're reaching limitations of x86 and are probably going to switch to ARM doesn't necessitate that the computers turn into SoC machines with the chips soldered onto the motherboard. What's stopping us from having ARM chips being LGA or PGA and being just processors, not SoCs.

  12. @ghodkiller0000

    October 29, 2024 at 4:27 pm

You make it seem like ARM is intrinsically better which is 100% not the truth.

7 5800x is a big example. Pulls a ton of wattage but doesnt make the performance any better so you need to reduce the wattage.

    October 29, 2024 at 4:27 pm

Sort of lost the point of this piece. The point of workstation is high performance, achieved at higher power draw. When did ARM deliver that? I just completely lost you on the point. What was it again?

  18. @TriPBOOMER

    October 29, 2024 at 4:27 pm

I don't pay for over priced shiny stickers of an apples, Especially not 1 someone took a bite out of!! Apples logo literally points out their business model, the Apple symbolises your product, the bite symbolises the ''Apple Tax'' you get charged for the ''privilege'' Of buying a product with a half eten apple on it, zero repair or upgradeability (Apple actively prevents this) and all with hardware you can get for half the price ANYWHERE else!
I will never buy Apple, and I will never have ''Recall'' on my PC so these snapdragon processors are nil and void to me, I run a 12900ks so realistically, when am I actually going to NEED upgrade, 5 years? then I will add 8 cores with a 13-14900k, then what another 3-5 years maybe? So I guess I will revisit this in 2032-2034, maybe ARM is still around and worth it then. & MS will have hopefully dropped ''Recall'' from windows or I will be still on win11 or a total Linux pro 🤣🤣

compatibility mode sound like a problem and a waste of silicon, but the realty is that it isn't.
Legacy code support has always been a problem and a burden, I know. You might intuitively think it will also be a problem for legacy mode in these chips but it really isn't.

I'm one of the few people in the comment section who think this is a better future, I read PC news every day, but even if I can't understand some of the devolvement, it's become too hard to understand. An all-in-one PC is easy to understand and a better future.
