Hi there Doug Stuman with IT Creations. We finally got the Dell EMC PowerEdge MX7000, Dell’s replacement for the M1000 Enclosure. This is a 7U chassis with support for up to 8x single-width server sleds, four double-wide sleds or a combination of the two. If you will recall, the M1000 blade server chassis is a 10U behemoth released in 2012. It offered support for more blades, but this one, even at 7U still offers better performance and capabilities in a smaller space. It’s also designed to support up to 3x new CPU generations from both AMD and Intel, but so far only Intel Xeon Scalable processors are supported. It’s a cost-effective flexible architecture that’s easy to scale-out offering on-demand allocation of compute, storage and networking pools.
Yes, this review of the Dell MX7000 enclosure is a little late in coming but it’s not like we qualify for review units from Dell. And I have tried. Oh yes, I have tried. Modular systems are not new to Dell as there are a few others still in the fold, although admittedly

Few items to note with the Dell VRTX: Dell marketing stated this could be a "under the desk" solution, however, we guarantee with most certain outcomes, the noise level of the blades and aux fans are too much for an office environment. (They are quite loud and I'm sure if you put this under someone's desk, they will hate you.) Most importantly, the PERC Raid controller, in a VRTX is about the only one that does NOT allow disk pool expansion on the fly. Example: If you have 5 hard drives in your array and you create a disk pool with them, you cannot expand the disk storage when you decide to add a 6th (or more) hard drive to your existing disk pool. If you need more space to an existing pool, you will have to migrate all your VM's to a temporary location, delete the disk pool and recreate it again with the existing and new hard drives just added. Word of caution: If you do not have fault tolerance for your temporary storage (while recreating this disk pool) and your temporary storage fails, your only fail safe will be your backup. As stated by Dell, this is one, if not the only, Dell PERC controller that does NOT allow you to expand disk storage. This is a major problem that Dell for some reason did not address and you as the user of a VRTX will inherit the risk if you don't take precautions. That is a huge demerit when it comes to servers and Dell should be ashamed for not correcting this. Lastly, Dell has decided not to continue sales of the Dell VRTX; They are moving back to the traditional individual rack mountable servers with disk storage arrays such as the MD 1420 Powervault. VRTX is a great product! Too bad Dell just cannot see the greater picture of what it is and/or what it could continue to be. My hopes is that they reconsider their decision and release a Gen 2 VRTX so we don't have to resort to the legacy rack and powervault solutions.

I'm not able to power on my Dell PowerEdge VRTX M520. When i plug my power cable in and it power on, it tells me that "Waiting for CMC to come online. This will take several minutes" then later after several minutes of waiting the screen changes to red and tells me that Alert unable to find CMC. How do i fix this issue please.
