It’s been a little while since our friends at UnikBox: https://unikbox.ca/ gave us this Dell PowerEdge T420 server to play around with. We go over some of our experiences with this tower, including the 14TB of RAID 10 storage we configured, running on Windows Server 2016.

Why only have one power supply plugged in? the whole point of redundant psu's is so if one fails the other picks up the slack with no power/data loss

I have a T620 that I just purchased and I got it for 600 plus shipping. I plan to use it as a high performance NAS, not sure yet if I will use windows server or go with a Linux Distro. Would like to see how you configured it .

Why run windows for a File Storage solution and with a GUI to boot? I feel like you loose a lot of system resources on Winblows overhead and then to have a GUI just adds insult to injury.

So what can you use to put a 3.5" drive into the 5.25" bay? The blanks seem to have screw standoffs in specific places, so it seems not just any 5.25 to 3.5 adapter would work

I have one of these, and I'd like to swap out the 2.5" drives for 3.5" with the 8 drive bay and backplane. Not sure if Dell has "welded" the drive cage and back plane, such that It won't be possible. I wonder if you remember anything that specific about this particular machine?
