How Building a Cyber Security Startup Ruined My Life (why I’d do it again!)

Ever thought of building a cyber security startup? I did. And it almost ruined my life (in a good way). Here’s some of my lessons learned along the way:

Life becomes much more stressful. This is because you go from wearing one hat to wearing a dozen hats. Except you can actually only work on one thing at a time.
You need to prioritize tasks based on the amount of time it will take to finish and the overall impact it will have on your startup. Saying “no” to busywork becomes
Another useful skill is developing the ability to “zoom’ in and out. This is the ability to pivot from detailed, tactical-level work to big-picture, strategic thinking.

There’s 3 business personalities in all of us. Striking the balance between your inner Tech, Manager, and Entrepreneur can help you deliver clear productivity in a world of chaos.

Building a business can be long and painful. It adds many projects to your life timeline, compressed in a short period.

But in the end, it’s going to be a much richer and colorful experience than just coasting and taking it easy. Which is why I’m going to be working on Teleseer, our network mapping software AND pushing YouTube content out.

You gotta learn to stop giving a fuck about something. That or fall in love to the point of actual madness. Both are really hard to do. Anywhere in between, and you end up in biological limbo.

This guy is the go to Guru of 2023

Can I add that when doing multiple aspects/projects in your business on a daily basis just write a to do list and then prioritise list then do 1 first followed by 2….

Health – you HAVE TO strike a BALANCE you are not a machine. Either a day on and then day off or a few days on with a few days off. I imagine you do a full day plus working through to the early hours.

This isn't pushing yourself this is grinding yourself down and your body is warning you with migraines etc. Take the hint. Days off are EXTREMELY important. You also need a "Sounds Good, looks good person to Answer the phone
    Answer emails
Answer any inputs by those contacting you "dead space" is not an option. There has to be a response from your team which effectively is a response from you…. isn't it?

But you NEEEED those days off.

So you need someone to hold the reins on your days off while your phone is off.

Somebody on your calendar year Planner diary….

Okay. They are a clutch between you – and – them.

Or you will just become a sick engineer entrepreneur. 😢

    Delegate.

Don't spread yourself to thin nor demand too much of your body. Its not a machine and it's not warfare that's worth the short term effort either, is it?

Love your insights and openness. You have explained my eyes/sleeping challenges I have been facing. I am new to CyberSecurity, however, I have always thought this would be my direction. Thank you for your wonderful in-depth videos and easy speech pattern allowing me to see the forest from the tress and desire to know and do more. I generally am self-taught, so meeting you (your channel) yesterday is exciting. Continue your work. I am too far at the entry level, so I will follow at my pace and send great energy to you and your team. Outstanding!!! NJ P.S. Great videos! I am a filmmaker/photographer 🙂 NJ

one way to help with long duration screen time would be using blue light blocking glasses and going into settings and turning on night mode which reduces eyestrain

6:53 sounds like what I went through related to monitors and brightness. Turning my years defaults of ~70-90% brightness/contrast down to 30 helped tremendously. I had to be careful though because I'm also very sensitive to PWM, which means my old cheap LG monitor was way more work friendly than mac m1 or m2 laptop screens which burns my eyes and give me headaches after 8 hours or so of usage (not counting breaks)

I have a genuine very important question: How can a Small Business MSP in CYber Security be successful and find clients while there are so many big companies and businesses already successful in the market? WHywould anyone decide to go with a small business over the big corps?

What is Roblox? ROBLOX is an online virtual playground and workshop, where kids of all ages can safely interact, create, have fun, and learn. It’s unique in that practically everything on ROBLOX is designed and constructed by members of the community. ROBLOX is designed for 13 to 18 year olds, but it is open to people of all ages. Each player starts by choosing an avatar and giving it an identity. They can then explore ROBLOX — interacting with others by chatting, playing games, or collaborating on creative projects. Each player is also given their own piece of undeveloped real estate along with a virtual toolbox with which to design and build anything — be it a navigable skyscraper, a working helicopter, a giant pinball machine, a multiplayer “Capture the Flag” game or some other, yet-to-be-dreamed-up creation. There is no cost for this first plot of virtual land. By participating and by building cool stuff, ROBLOX members can earn specialty badges as well as ROBLOX dollars (“Robux”). In turn, they can shop the online catalog to purchase avatar clothing and accessories as well as premium building materials, interactive components, and working mechanisms.
