How I Would Learn Cyber Security (If I Could Start Over)

If I could go back in time and learn cyber security, I would do a lot of things differently. If I could start over, I’d spend more time doing practical projects rather than focusing on theory. I would also prioritize learning a specific niche in the field and focusing on learning those skills. And above all, I’d adopt a better learning strategy for cyber security. Today, I walk you through an entire study plan to help you get into cyber security. I hope this guide inspires you to keep learning and continue your cyber security career.

I’m over 30 years old, semi recent graduate working at a Fortune 500 company as a security analyst! Follow along for insights into the tech industry, all things cyber security, and what to expect as a recent-grad and remote cyber security engineer.

    "A bachelor's is a bachelor's"
Yep they've still got their grip on you. Even when you KNOW it was a scam, you still feel like you need to do it.
I'm in so much debt for literally nothing, when I could've just studied for certain certs instead.
I KNEW THAT SH** TOO AND STILL DID IT TO MYSELF ANYWAYS. Some things make sense for college, but only because they've made it where there's NO WAY to avoid it. You used to be able to take the Barr exam without having to go to law school in certain states, now that doesn't exist. You could just grind and study and go take the test. Don't even get me started on our medical INDUSTRY

I am currently taking a course for cybersecurity. However, I’m curious on how hard it is, how can I remember how to do it by heart and how to develop a growth mindset in a career like this. I’m trying to get compensated a lot more money and be able to do anything I want to do.

I'm currently in the process of joining the military as an Network guy.Cuz I know college won't actually teach me anything plus the military gives me a great resume afterwards. Is this the right choice to start cybersecurity?

7:30 the info ive heard as far as this goes is that college isnt just for one area or one job its supposed to round you out as a person even if if doesnt pertain to the specific field you want to study, and HR isnt looking for the absoulte best penteststers etc they are looking for good pentesters that can work on a team etc thats just what i heard

I’m 21 years old and have two years left to complete my bachelor’s degree in computer science. I plan to take courses in networking and pursue cybersecurity certification. what do u think about this?

  30. @treebobjoe

    October 19, 2024 at 8:41 pm

Solid advice. I've been using TryHackMe to build my foundation over the past 2 months. I want to be competent enough to take part in CTF events. Bug bounties got me interested in learning. Exploring career paths, I feel drawn to pentesting, but I'm basically starting from ground zero. Is this realistic? I've never had a tech job before. Should I start at a help desk? Should I continue with my manual labor position until I'm confident enough to start applying for SOC jr. analyst positions? Or should I just grind long and hard until I'm consistently performing well in CTF events?

  31. @samoconnor3633

    October 19, 2024 at 8:41 pm

My path i started using thm in college at 16 as it was all i could afford then chose a networks and cyber degree that actually taught (mostly) real, useful information – that i use today and alongside my degree i got my certificates (eJPT, CCNA1,2&3) All the while using THM to brush up on relevant info. A degree is definitely a good idea but check the course content beforehand. All that took was 3 years

Awesome video, very funny and relatable. I am currently doing a traineeship it's basically a cert farm where they place me into an IT job based on previous experience and then 2 years of work experience is farmed along with more certs to then place me as an Analyst. Seems like I am getting into this at the right time and doing it the right(ish) way! So yeah see you in Azeroth my man lol and thanks for the great video!

Here, Cryptography in computer network is described in this video.

Cryptography is derived from the Greek word, which means “Hidden Secrets.” In other words, it is an art in which we can protect our data and information. Through cryptography, we convert our data into Unreadable Secret Codes, called Cipher Text and can read this data only, which will have the secret key to decrypt it.
