How to Build a Cable-Free Desk with Built-In Lights, USB, Outlets + More!

Since I was fed up with my former desk setup, I decided to build an entirely new, feature-packed desk from Steel and Oakwood that solves everything I ever found annoying or lacking in a PC Workstation. Among other things the new desk features an integrated shelf with LED-Lighting built into the table, elaborate cable-management, floating monitor and speakers and many other helpful additions. Plans for this Build are also available, so you can make your own!

I come back to watch this video every few months, your planning and extensive detailing on the desk is really easy to follow and it just lets the video fly by. Great work and looking forward to your next build!

The quality of the desk is great. But the amount of labor you put in it and the material is an over kill.

You should sell these with proper D50 lighting for photo viewing. I bet you’d be able to sell them to a bunch of print shops.

So i clicked on the video thinking it was just some super crazy cable management, and i wasn't wrong but when i saw "how to Build" i don't think i was prepared to actually "Build" it. Amazing video!

  25. @PluviumGrandis

    November 2, 2024 at 3:25 pm

I bought the blueprint and building this table, but looking at the flexibility of the smaller tubes used for the upper cross brace, which is also used to mount the monitors does it not deflect a lot from the weight of the monitor/shelves if you extend the arm forward at all? If your plans calls for 6cm wide crossbrace a monitor arm extended forward would exert enough torque to deflect the cross brace and twist it significantly wouldn't it?

FAQ: CHECK HERE FIRST IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS:
Hey everyone, since there are a lot of questions in the comments I'm gonna answer the most common ones here:

Q: What software did you use for planning?
    A: I use Fusion 360

Q: What are the overall Dimensions of the Table?
A: You can see them here (Units are Milimetres): i.imgur.com/Ua5wlwI.jpg

    Q: What Materials are needed?
    A: I've uploaded a bill of materials here: i.imgur.com/5z9OOXv.jpg

Q: How much does it cost to make?
A: It's hard to say exactly because steel and wood prices are vastly different depending on location and the world market. It also depends on which wood you use. But overall, probably somewhere around 300$ in raw materials, plus whatever gadgets you want to install (Lights, USB etc. not included in this estimate)

    Q: Why not height adjustable?
A: It would have made the project a lot more complicated and expensive and I personally don't need it

Q: Can you make/sell me one? How much?
A: I appreciate the interest, but when asking this, people usually underestimate the amount of work hours it takes me to make somthing like this. Building things individually by hand as one person is many times more inefficient than mass production, so even if I only charged minimum wage for my work it would have to be extremely expensive if I want to make any profit. On top of that, the shipping cost for this would be very expensive too. Lastly, if I built things to order, I wouldn't have time to make videos anymore 😉 So I hope you understand I can't take orders for now – but I'm looking into ways of providing something like a build kit in the future, and I will post updates if things get more concrete.

    Q; How heavy is it?
A: I didn't weigh it so I don't really know, but fully assembled it can be carried by two people relatively easily. I'm guessing it weighs somewhere around 50 Kilos (without the PC setup)

What is Roblox? ROBLOX is an online virtual playground and workshop, where kids of all ages can safely interact, create, have fun, and learn. It’s unique in that practically everything on ROBLOX is designed and constructed by members of the community. ROBLOX is designed for 13 to 18 year olds, but it is open to people of all ages. Each player starts by choosing an avatar and giving it an identity. They can then explore ROBLOX — interacting with others by chatting, playing games, or collaborating on creative projects. Each player is also given their own piece of undeveloped real estate along with a virtual toolbox with which to design and build anything — be it a navigable skyscraper, a working helicopter, a giant pinball machine, a multiplayer “Capture the Flag” game or some other, yet-to-be-dreamed-up creation. There is no cost for this first plot of virtual land. By participating and by building cool stuff, ROBLOX members can earn specialty badges as well as ROBLOX dollars (“Robux”). In turn, they can shop the online catalog to purchase avatar clothing and accessories as well as premium building materials, interactive components, and working mechanisms.
