New Rack Console! - HP TFT7600 Rackmount Monitor

Huge thanks to Linode for bringing you this video. Wanting your own personal cloud services, but don’t have the time, money, or space to set up your own server rack? Let Linode host them for you! Visit https://linode.com/CraftComputing and get a $100 60-Day credit just for signing up.

There’s one feature I hugely enjoy having in my rack, and that’s a rackmount monitor and console. As great as a lot of remote management tools, IPMI, RDP and SSH can be, sometimes, there’s just no replacing a keyboard and monitor directly connected to a server. So, I upgraded the console in my rack with the HP TFT7600 Rackmount Console… but was it money well spent?

But first… What am I drinking???

In a collaboration between Pacific Plate Brewing and Bangkok Craft Brewing comes Tom Yum Beer… an American Wheat Beer inspired by Thai cuisine. With absolutely no expectations, this one was pleasantly surprising. A FANTASTIC wheat ale, and just the right amount of spice from the Galangal to make this one zesty yet refreshing. 5.0%

You usually do some pretty good work.
But I have no sympathy for this. Measure twice. Cut once.
All the problems you had were PRETTY clear if you had just taken a bit of time to look at how it was put together.
You made all this work for yourself. And then you transferred some of that frustration to your viewers who were no-doubt yelling at you through their screens while they watched you do it wrong…

The tech is neat, but I'd love to see more of a rundown on what he's doing with all of it and why it's worth all of the cost and difficulty, apart from having a YouTube channel.

Next time be patient and take it all apart and do the cable management while you're installing this new unit. Takes longer initially but pays off down the line.

These should have a blue light that glows inside the pull out handle when the screen is closed. It's hard to tell because you're in a brightly lit garage, but it doesn't look like your light is working. The way the light works is there's a reed switch to the right of the LCD panel, and a magnet to the right of the keyboard. When the lid is closed the magnet closes the reed switch and the light comes on. If you look underneath the unit (don't need to do any disassembly – just slide the unit out) you'll see where the magnet is – or at least should be – on the far right side. If it's missing like one of mine was, just hot glue another magnet in its place.

Hey man, do you know if there's any way to enable/configure the gestures in this Touchpad? Things like:
    * scrolling up/down with 2 fingers
    * touching with 2 fingers for right clicking
    * zooming in/out on the touchpad
    etc

I'm so used to those gestures in a laptop that it's quite tricky to use this system without them. Do you know how one could enable them?

Thanks for this, should help to save me time, and frustration from trying to install the whole enchilada before attaching the outer slide rails. EZ mistake to make, as not kind of project we would be doing every day. I'm making, from scratch, 2 rack mount shelves to hold a couple of docked x220T's (my daily drivers) using HD shelf slides, heavy steel screen for the tray, with two dust filtered fans to hopefully keep them both running cool, and clean. Cool channel, BTW!

Something that's always bothered me on random devices with touchpads: so many of them have no way to disable tapping (the random clicking when you so much as breathe on the touchpad).

If you're using it as it was intended to be used for a server you can get a lot of them for $80 to even $150 that's how low the market has gone on those mainly because a lot of people just think oh it has a small screen I'm not interested in it when technically you don't need a large screen when it's on a server

Nice video! I bought the same KVM Console off of eBay (HP TFT7600 kvm) for $175 after watching this video. I have it on my rack connected to a KVM switch that is connected to three rackmounted windows machines and a Dell Poweredge R720 with Proxmox installed on that. The monitor looks like it is showing everything at a low resolution–not the higher one shown in your video. Is there a way to toggle the resolution on the KVM Console itself? I can't find any instructions anywhere on how to do that.

I have an HPE LCD8500 that i just bought.. the usb port for MS/KB (Mouse/keyboard) doesnt work, nor the two usb passthrough ports.

I dont know if the data pins are supposed tk be reversed on a usb male to male cable (as the connectors on the KVM console i have only have USB A female connectors.)

My use case is using it as a standalone KVM for just one computer only (for now at least).

I have no clue why its not working.. the only thing that works is just the vga function (sorta) and i feel like i just wasted 150 bucks. What would you recommend that i should do?

    November 6, 2024 at 12:32 pm

Hi. I found one with the server switch.
When I start the machine it will change colors on the monitor and nothing else.
Why does it do this? Does it not have an os?

  28. @mattymuc

That was probably the most cumbersome way to install this KVM 🙂

What is Roblox? ROBLOX is an online virtual playground and workshop, where kids of all ages can safely interact, create, have fun, and learn. It’s unique in that practically everything on ROBLOX is designed and constructed by members of the community. ROBLOX is designed for 13 to 18 year olds, but it is open to people of all ages. Each player starts by choosing an avatar and giving it an identity. They can then explore ROBLOX — interacting with others by chatting, playing games, or collaborating on creative projects. Each player is also given their own piece of undeveloped real estate along with a virtual toolbox with which to design and build anything — be it a navigable skyscraper, a working helicopter, a giant pinball machine, a multiplayer “Capture the Flag” game or some other, yet-to-be-dreamed-up creation. There is no cost for this first plot of virtual land. By participating and by building cool stuff, ROBLOX members can earn specialty badges as well as ROBLOX dollars (“Robux”). In turn, they can shop the online catalog to purchase avatar clothing and accessories as well as premium building materials, interactive components, and working mechanisms.
