In this video I build a network rack from scratch, explaining along the way the each step and the reason I am doing it the way that I am. This is intended for a home network, not a commercial space, so I have simplified some of the steps. I made this video for first time builders, so I try not to assume that you have built a lot of these and that you are looking for some general guidance. The primary lesson you’ll want to take away here is to carefully arrange your main bundle prior to getting under way – if you start out haphazardly, you’ll have a harder and harder time keeping the rack under control as you go along.

Nice rack. Plenty of space. Kind of crazy considering that before I was like, will I have enough space with a 27U, maybe I should get a 32U and now seeing this 25U you bought is just plenty of space. But then again, now I find myself wondering if I will even go the server rack route. I have two 2U servers and recently decided to build my TrueNAS server with aa Fractal Design NODE 804. The reason was affordability and getting the parts I need for the case is way more affordable and easier than in a rackmount server. A Server rack is super cool however the acquisition of a good one will cost plus the various equipment for it (tablets, rails, etc). But again, it sure does look great and organized (although some would say, what looks great and organized is subjective however for organizing computer stuff, a server rack is hard to beat).

Good video, but zooming out just a bit would have been a little more helpful. I found myself making sure I did not accidentally zoom in multiple times.

I have ten of those. when I ordered mine, I ONLY ORDERED ONE AND THEY ONLY CHARGED ME FOR ONE. When they didn't want the other nine back, I put them in my spare room. I'll keep one extra and sell or donate the rest.

3:46 aren't the "L' brackets backwards ? So that in front of the server it would hold better in the screws, then in the rear (where server is just hanging) it could rest on the bottom of the "L" brackets ?
Just asking, I never mounted any 🙂

My organization uses most of StarTech's racks and I gotta say that they are absolutely amazing for the price. I just bought one for my R720, R730, and networking equipment I use for my CCNA along with equipment for my home network. One day I'd love to either get a patch panel then install keystone jacks in all of the rooms in my house.

Just a heads up…. Looking at the manual it does support 1200lb, but only stationary. With casters, it supports 660lb. (I just got one for the same reasons he switched his out…)
