In this video, I install a high-precision time server in my studio using the OpenTimeCard Mini from TimeBeat. Instead of relying on external Network Time Protocol (NTP) servers, I’m hosting my own time server to achieve nanosecond-level accuracy using Precision Time Protocol (PTP).
The OpenTimeCard Mini combines a GPS module that receives signals from satellites equipped with atomic clocks and a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4) acting as the server. This setup allows me to synchronize all the clocks on my network with unprecedented precision.
Additional Information:
• The Birth of Atomic Clocks: The first practical atomic clock was developed in 1955 by Louis Essen at the National Physical Laboratory in the UK. By 1967, the second was redefined based on the vibrations of cesium atoms, marking a significant leap in timekeeping accuracy.
• GPS Satellites and Timekeeping: The Global Positioning System (GPS) began with the launch of its first satellite in 1978. These satellites carry atomic clocks that provide precise time signals, revolutionizing navigation and global time synchronization.
• Understanding NTP Synchronization: The Network Time Protocol (NTP) dynamically adjusts its synchronization intervals, typically ranging from 64 to 1,024 seconds, to maintain accurate time across devices connected to the internet.
• Time Zones and Global Standardization: The concept of standardized time zones was proposed by Sir Sandford Fleming in 1879. The 1884 International Meridian Conference endorsed these time zones, paving the way for the global timekeeping system we use today.
• Raspberry Pi and Hardware Timestamping: While the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4) allows for hardware timestamping through additional network interfaces, the standard Raspberry Pi 4 does not support this feature on its built-in Ethernet port. The new Raspberry Pi 5 introduces hardware timestamping support directly on its Ethernet interface.
• Why Nanosecond Accuracy Matters: Industries such as financial trading, where transactions happen in fractions of a second, rely heavily on precise time synchronization. Broadcasting and aerospace also require this level of accuracy to ensure seamless operations.

Spending $4,534,741 For CHROMA SWORDS In Blade Ball
What is Roblox? ROBLOX is an online virtual playground and workshop, where kids of all ages can safely interact, create, have fun, and learn. It’s unique in that practically everything on ROBLOX is designed and constructed by members of the community. ROBLOX is designed for 13 to 18 year olds, but it is open to people of all ages. Each player starts by choosing an avatar and giving it an identity. They can then explore ROBLOX — interacting with others by chatting, playing games, or collaborating on creative projects. Each player is also given their own piece of undeveloped real estate along with a virtual toolbox with which to design and build anything — be it a navigable skyscraper, a working helicopter, a giant pinball machine, a multiplayer “Capture the Flag” game or some other, yet-to-be-dreamed-up creation. There is no cost for this first plot of virtual land. By participating and by building cool stuff, ROBLOX members can earn specialty badges as well as ROBLOX dollars (“Robux”). In turn, they can shop the online catalog to purchase avatar clothing and accessories as well as premium building materials, interactive components, and working mechanisms.

GPS signals can be spoofed and attacked. You need a backup time source and that would be NTP.
Due to global warming and the melting of polar ice, that's causing higher tides and slowing the Earth.
We now need to SUBTRACT leap seconds now to adjust for it. We've always had to adjust forward.

So help me understand – if the goal here is to have a server that's:
A) reading GPS satellites for time data
B) serving that data over NTP
Then why aren't we repurposing an old Android phone for $5 instead of that ungodly RPi hat? Not everything needs to be an RPi project
There's a number of phones out there that can read GPS and GLOSNASS so you can really have fun with it if you want to.

I wonder if this could be usefull for recording studio applications where time is critical (just being too much out of clock a little instant causes audible glitch, ruining an entiere session (like a live recording). That's why you find audio interfaces makers like Antelope putting directly "atomic clock" (well, probably not really but they are known as the most timely precises machines) that will act as the clock master for the entiere system, supposedly adding great stability and avoiding this kind of desync. It's also common to use undependant hardware clock whose job is to be the clock reference. I'd love to make try around it

NTP has a precision of 1ms when applied to a LAN (about 10ms over the internet)… Latency over LAN can't be much better than 0.1ms. That's nice, but it's a solution that no one watching this video needs or is looking for, and scientific lab needing that kind of precision can buy decent gear. What's important for people to have is to be on the SAME time, not an ACCURATE time, time is just a construct.

Edit: There are actually a plethera of errors in the custom made subtitles (not the auto-generated ones). Many many typos, incorrect punctuation and incorrect grammar. For someone like me who relys on them, this is very infuriating. Alot of the time they are a jumbled mess. Sometimes worse than the auto-generated ones… 🙁

If you’re intrigued by the fascinating world of time synchronization and want to delve deeper, here are some interesting insights and resources:
• The Precision of Quartz Clocks: Modern quartz crystal oscillators are remarkably accurate, typically drifting about 15 seconds per month. While factors like temperature and aging can affect them, advancements have significantly minimized these deviations.
• Hardware Timestamping in Networking: Hardware timestamping captures the exact moment a network packet is sent or received, allowing for nanosecond-level precision. This is essential for applications requiring extremely accurate time synchronization, like PTP.
