I appreciate the objective dB report, but can you comment on how the difference is subjectively? With the equipment in the rack is it still “noticeable” noise, “audible but quiet” , “i can hear it if I pay attention but not normally” or “quiet – can’t really hear it at all”…..
Also: are the built in fans adjustable or thermostatically controlled or just on/off?

Oof that's quite steep for $1400 for only a 12u. I feel one could easily diy an open 4 post rack to be sound proof with some plywood, dynamat, and studio foam. Of course that's work so I guess you pay for that with this unit

a nice rack. would it be possible to show in a bit of details how the ventilation is made? Where is intake and exhaust, that is is still quite and in the same time keeps the ventilation solid?

If this was a regular rack with all gear in use, mounting all that 1U gear hard together can shorten the equipment life with a build up heat between units. I always leave a 1/3U space between each piece.
That foam is not sound insulation, it's sound absorber.

I like the rackstuds. Thats awesome. I've never seen those before. But the server rack is just crazy expensive so I'll take a hard pass on that. Even with discount.

So expensive, but I love myself some sound proofing. My PC case is sound proofed so I don't hear the fans while gaming. I sometimes forget its turned on since mostly moving over to SSD's over HDD's.

Hi Chris, I have 2 questions:
1. Please confirm if the input voltage for the fans is universal, i.e. from 110V to 240V?
2. In the video, you have both a Netgate 7100 PFSense box and a Unifi Dream Machine Pro. Are you using the Netgate appliance purely as a firewall? Looking closely at the video, I see that you're using the RJ45 WAN connection on the UDM Pro. Aren't you concerned about double NAT'ting?

I gotta ask.. cause I really like the look of this case.. but why is it about 8x overpriced? As far as I can tell, from sourcing Birch plywood at about $55 for 8x4x3/4 sheet.. 2 of them would be enough wood to make this rack. Granted you need hardware like the rails, some extra wood 2x2s or 2x4s or something for bracing maybe, and laminate and spray paint or something, glass/plexiglass panel for front.. sure.. but it just seems way way overpriced for what you are getting which is mostly a wood box with some nice rounded corners and laminate. But I do really like the overall design of this.

I liked the review. Have you, at this point, put anything into it that is really noisy (like a server) and if so, how well did it work to keep the noise down? I’m moving from a home when I had a room to put my equipment in, to a small apartment where I don’t have the extra storage space and I need something that will quiet a Dell R710 server.
